When Joey first came in, he was several months removed from a tibial fracture.Despite being “cleared,” he still couldn’t perform a simple single-leg hop on his injured leg without significant pain.A lateral hop test wasn’t even possible. That told us everything we needed to know.🔄 Returning to sport isn’t simply about waiting for a bone to heal or receiving medical clearance. Athletes need to regain the physical capacity to tolerate the demands of competition.Over the next eight weeks we progressively rebuilt that capacity through individualized strength training, plyometric progressions, landing mechanics, and gradual exposure to higher-speed movements. The result?✅ Pain-free single-leg hopping✅ Successful completion of the lateral hop assessment✅ Improvements across multiple jump performance metricsTwo of those numbers deserve extra context, because they’re the ones that actually predict what happens on the court.💥 Eccentric Braking Impulse is a measure of how well an athlete can absorb force when they land or decelerate — think of it as the strength of the brakes. Joey improved 23-25% on both legs. That’s the difference between sticking a landing under control and collapsing into one.💥 Eccentric Braking RFD measures how fast those brakes get applied. Joey’s numbers went up 100% on his left and 124% on his right. This is what determines how quickly an athlete can stop, plant, and go again — the first step out of a cut, closing out on a shooter, absorbing a landing and immediately reacting to the next play. Strength alone doesn’t do that. Speed of force absorption does.💪🏽 For an athlete coming off a tibial fracture, this isn’t just a performance number. It’s a resilience number. The faster and more evenly the body can brake, the less stress gets dumped into that bone on every cut and landing.📊 Objective testing matters because it gives us more than opinions — it gives us measurable evidence that an athlete is moving in the right direction.Every athlete’s rehab journey is different, but the goal remains the same:📈 Don’t just return to play. Return prepared. by @nateshemtov_coach

Will Kyle III put in the work last offseason. Syracuse felt it all season. 🔒I’ve trained a lot of athletes. Will is one of those guys you just love to coach. He came in already elite — D1 athlete, 40” vertical, college experience. He showed up every single session ready to compete with himself. No shortcuts. No excuses. Just genuine love for getting better. We attacked reactive strength, multi-directional speed, plyometric development, and intentional hypertrophy — building a body that could do more, play faster and dominate the floor. The numbers tell part of the story:→ +10 lbs of muscle→ 40” vertical → 44” vertical→ A senior season worth rememberingBut what I’ll remember most is the attitude he brought every day. That’s what separates good athletes from great ones and Will has always known that.Proud of you 4️⃣2️⃣. Go be great. 🙏If your athlete is ready to put in that kind of work — DM me to learn more about offseason development by @nateshemtov_coach

The biggest myth in youth sports:“They’re too young to train.”Reality → this is the most important window for athletic development. At 11–13 years old we focus on:• Speed & coordination• Landing & jumping mechanics• Strength technique• Confidence in the weight roomWe’re not trying to create bodybuilders. We’re building athletes. The kids who start in middle school enter high school ahead of the curve instead of trying to catch up.And that difference compounds every year.If your athlete is serious about sports, this is where it starts.DM me “YOUTH” to get started! by @nateshemtov_coach

Most athletes hear “recovery” and think it means doing less.At the high level, it means doing the RIGHT things. This is what an actual in-season session looks like for a college athlete. We’re not chasing fatigue. We’re not trying to PR.We’re building durability, working on limitations, and keeping the body in positions that transfer to the court. The problem is most high school athletes either:Overtrain and burn outOr undertrain and fall behindThere’s no structure. If you want to perform at the next level, you need to train like someone who’s already there. That includes how you recover. If you’re serious about your development, this matters.DM me “TRAIN” if you want to get in the right system. by @nateshemtov_coach
