I’m once again asking for your help.

After the Planning Commission Meeting three weeks ago, the Chair of the Commission directed the Zoning Office to revamp the proposed ordinance and draft language for a proposed ban.

It seems that “revamping” to the Zoning Office is changing 5 minor things about the ordinance, leaving setback distances the same, and including no language on a ban.

The next Public Comment is Thursday. It is not lost to me this is scheduled on Fall Break. There’s a reason for that. They are expecting us to stay silent. To let this issue pass us by. Do not prove them right.

If you want specific talking points for this draft of the ordinance, please message me. But above all else, I want this courthouse packed.

Stand with our community. Let’s fight. by @nateureeves

This is what happens when we all stand together.

On Thursday, this community showed up. We spoke out against a toothless ordinance that did not do enough to protect the people of Scott County. And we forced change to happen.

At the end of Public Comment, the Chair of the Planning Commission directed the Zoning Office to come up with another draft of the data center ordinance that included extended setback distances and a size cap. In addition, the Commission is planning to adopt an outright ban in combination with this new ordinance as a two pronged approach to protecting our community.

I am so proud of our community and every student that showed up to speak their mind. We had over 20 kids from both the Scott County and Great Crossing Y-Clubs, and it is a moment of County unity I hope we can build upon.

Though this is a tremendous first step, it is just a first step. We cannot stop until these plans actually become reality. We cannot take our foot off the gas. We have the momentum, we’ve made our voices heard, now let’s make sure something’s done about it.

Keep fighting friends. This is a victory, but the battle’s not over taken in Great Crossing High School by @nateureeves

Stop scrolling. This is important.

THIS THURSDAY, from 6:00-8:00 at the Great Crossing Auditorium, the Georgetown-Scott County Planning Commission will be having public comment on their proposal to regulate AI Data Centers.

If passed, this proposal will take the place of our current moratorium in the county, which is set to expire at the end of the year. It claims to protect our community. Instead, it leaves us vulnerable.

This County needs you. Even if you do not know much about AI Data Centers, even if you’ve never been to a “political” event before, even if you don’t plan to speak, you being there shows that this issue is important.

On slides two and three, there is an info sheet I have prepared that outlines why this ordinance is bad for our County. If you have any questions, ask them in the comments, I am more than happy to answer.

I want you there. Our Community needs you there. Our Planning Commission has specifically asked for youth opinions on this matter, and I want them to know just how powerful we are when we show up.

Stand up. Use your voice. Defend Scott County. Be there this Thursday. taken in Great Crossing High School by @nateureeves

GSP…

For Five whole weeks I’ve spent my life with all of you, and I could not have thought of a better way to spend it. Every single person I’ve interacted with here, you’ve been an inspiration more than you could ever know.

Before I came here, I heard a lot about the “Magic of GSP.” And though Steve has religiously compared it to Disney, I think there’s more there. This program has brought 337 kids together who have only ever been used to competing, and told them to simply enjoy the ride. And it creates something so beautiful. It creates growth without pressure, and I am so glad to have grown with all of you.

The late night talks. The conspiracy research and Scientology presentations. The 19 mattresses and over 300 balloons (still don’t know how that happened by the way). Getting married. These memories, and so many more, are going to stay with me for the rest of my life. And I am so, so glad to have made them with all of you.

Thank you for everything GSP, I’ll never forget it by @nateureeves

I am in awe

I am in awe of this conference, in awe of you, and in awe of the fact that you’ve entrusted me with the honor of serving as your Secretary General. I promise you, I will not let you down.

Though the campaign is over, this journey has just begun. Together, we will make next year’s KUNA the best that’s ever been.

To my fellow PO’s, I cannot wait for the year we have in front of us. We have the ability to make something special, and I have no doubt that we will follow through.

To everyone that supported me, gave me advice, and guided me along the way, I could not have done this without you, and I can’t thank you enough for all of the kindness you’ve shown.

And to all of you who were at this conference, know I will work tirelessly to serve you. The promises I made during this campaign were not empty words, and they will be followed through on.

Together, we’re gonna change the world. by @nateureeves

With us being two days away from KUNA, I wanted to take a chance to say thank you.

Thank you to those of you who have made all of this possible. I would not have been able to do even half of the things I’ve wanted to do with this campaign if it weren’t for your help.

For the sake of of clarity, I won’t ramble on too long, but I do want to highlight some specific people.

Tristin, you have served as a role model for me in more ways than I could ever imagine, and I am so thankful we stumbled across each other three KYA’s ago

To my friends right here at @schs_yc you all are my reason for running. You are my inspiration. And I hope I can make you proud.

To my Mom, who has continued to deal with my antics no matter how scatterbrained I am, and does her best to reel in my crazy.

And finally, to my Dad. You’re the reason I even tried my hand at public speaking, and you’re also going to be the only reason I won’t be stumbling over my words on that stage two days from now.

Know I love and appreciate you all. You are my Why. Now it’s time for us to bring it home. by @nateureeves

I don’t call many things life changing

But that’s what I’m calling this past week. To represent the Y at a National level, to meet with congressmen and women to advocate for an organization I hold so dear, it’s an honor that few things in my life have ever matched

To the YMCA, thank you so much for giving me this opportunity. To my fellow Youth Advocates, you have been an inspiration more than you could ever know. And to everyone back home in Kentucky, know that I’m coming back with a passion you’ve never seen before

All I can say is get ready. taken in Washington, DC by @nateureeves

We Talked About It

And what an experience it was. A night of community, connection, and conversation that could not have gone better. Nearly 100 individuals, gathered together for one common purpose: understanding.

People ranging in age from our 14 year old Y-Club Freshmen to an 81 year old Veteran, all working together to understand one another. To get out of their comfort zones, and to learn something. I am so proud to say that I have learned something myself.

I’ve learned that this community, this world, is so much stronger than we give it credit for. So often we get stuck in our own circles, our own beliefs, that we forget to look outside of it. But on Thursday, I realized that if we give people opportunities to step outside of that world they’re so comfortable in, they won’t let you down.

Thank you all for being willing to make your world just a little bigger. Whether you were an attendee, a facilitator, or just someone who reposted a flyer, you are the reason this event was able to happen.

For all of us here at the Scott County Y-Club, last night was a symbol of the future, and it’s looking brighter by the day. Though this started as a candidate service project, it’s not going to end that way. We’re going to keep connecting with this community—keep Talking About It—till the whole world’s listening.

Last week I asked you a simple question: How?

How do we establish trust? How do we ensure accountability? How do we make sure our world is the best it can be?

I have a part of that answer for you today.

We have conversations. We bring the lofty ideas of “I hate how our government is” down to “here’s how we can affect change.” When we connect with those around us, there’s often a realization that we’re not as different as we’re made out to be.

The quest for that realization is the reason for my service project—Let’s Talk About It—a community conversation night. Across the past few months, I have been collecting leaders in our community that are comfortable hosting discussions on so many different topics. On February 19th, those conversations are going to be had.

Now, where do you come in? The best way you can support this mission is to show up. Invite your friends. Invite your Mom. Invite your grandpa (yes, even if the only thing he watches is FOX News). I need your help to make this a success. Wherever you are, whatever your background is, I want you here making our community stronger taken in Elkhorn Crossing School by @nateureeves

This is Dave

For anyone utterly confused as to why I carry a pink worm around with me, I hope this clears some things up.

I first crossed paths with Dave last year at KUNA, when we were partners representing DeWorm the World, a nonprofit organization working to eradicate worms related diseases in third world countries.

Since that conference we have been inseparable, and Dave has travelled with me far and wide—through the mountains of Boone North Carolina or to the Mall of America in Minnesota—he’s been there through it all.

So if you see Dave at KUNA, say hi! He doesn’t bite. And when you’re thinking about voting for me, just remember that Dave and I are a package deal.
