Retour en images sur DOUZE DOUZE 🌿 [4/4]

Samedi, de midi à minuit, c'était douze heures de performances artistiques à travers Ahuntsic-Cartierville. De l'intimité du jardin aux grands espaces post-industriels : un rallye artistique et une découverte du quartier.

Être plongé dans un processus créatif est l’un des sentiments les plus complexes que je connaisse. C’est comme être la tête en bas tout en restant debout. Ce n’est qu’une succession de contrastes. Tout est clair à un instant, puis flou l’instant d’après. C’est à la fois de la joie, de la douleur, du désir, des doutes, de la liberté, de l’amour et bien plus encore – tout cela en même temps. C’est à la fois épuisant et enrichissant. C’est un véritable mystère.

Being in a creative process is one of the most complexes feelings I know. It’s being upside-down while being upright. It’s all oppositions. Everything is clear in a second and blurry the next. It’s joy, pain, desire, doubts, freedom love and more – everything together at the same time. It’s exhausting and nourishing. It’s such a mystery. Samedi 26 septembre 10 h à 12 h

Cet atelier offrira des outils pour apprivoiser l’anxiété de performance ainsi que pour accéder à une expression authentique, à tout moment.

Notre corps possède une logique propre, toujours tournée vers l'équilibre et le mouvement. Cet atelier propose des outils inspirés de l'auto-hypnose, du Feldenkrais et de diverses pratiques méditatives pour démasquer ce langage corporel et s'affranchir de la honte du mouvement — cette résistance qui façonne nos gestes selon les attentes sociales. À la fois technique de mouvement et pratique méditative, la démarche se déploie en solo, devant témoins, puis en groupe. Les participant·es exploreront l'échec, la vulnérabilité et la joie, développant une nouvelle confiance dans leur mouvement authentique.

Et si la danse naissait simplement de ce qu'on entend ? Avec Sam I Am Montolla, l'atelier invite à explorer le mouvement à partir de la musique, du récit et du ressenti. Soul, R&B, house : les styles se succèdent, chacun ouvrant une porte différente vers le corps. Pas besoin d'expérience en danse ni de vocabulaire technique. Seulement une envie de bouger, d'écouter autrement, de se laisser traverser par un rythme. Un moment ludique et accessible, à vivre seul, entre amis ou en famille. Tous les corps, tous les âges sont les bienvenus.

Nate Yaffe est un artiste expérimental en danse, en théâtre et en vidéo, basé à Tiohtà:ke (Montréal). Ses recherches portent sur les stratégies queer pour la permission corporelle et le courage. Ses danses tactiles déconstruisent la honte du mouvement en libérant le corps de l'autocensure. Il tisse une toile relationnelle avec son public et utilise l'affect comme matériau chorégraphique tangible, nous rappelant que la performance est, avant tout, un échange social.

En tant que codirecteur artistique du Radeau, Nate propose des pistes alternatives pour la pratique de la danse face à un avenir incertain. Il est cocommissaire de nombreux événements, dont Signal Vibrant : une cérémonie pour les morts et Hommage Fromage. Son travail a récemment été présenté au FRAC Bretagne, à Lachapelle scènes contemporaines, au OFFTA, au Performance Mix festival (New York), à SummerWorks (Toronto), à Plastic Orchid Factory (Vancouver) et à la Biennale d'art performatif de Rouyn-Noranda.

Dans le cadre de sa Résidence Radiale à LA SERRE, Nate poursuivra le développement de 𝐴 𝐻𝑎𝑟𝑑 𝐺𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡.

Nate Yaffe is an experimental dance, theatre and video artist, based in Tiohtà:ke (Montreal) who researches queer strategies for bodily permission and courage. His tactile dances dismantle movement shame through un-correcting the self-censored body. He weaves a relational web with his audience, and uses affect as a tangible choreographic material, reminding us that performance is a social exchange, after all.

As co-artistic director of Le Radeau, Nate seeks community-centred alternatives for being a dance artist in face of the uncertain future. He has also co-curated many events including Signal Vibrant: a ceremony for the dead, and Hommage Fromage. His work has recently been presented at FRAC Bretagne, Lachapelle scènes contemporaines, OFFTA, Performance Mix festival (NYC), SummerWorks (Toronto), Plastic Orchid Factory (Vancouver), and Biennale d’art performatif de Rouyn-Noranda.

As part of his Radial Residency at LA SERRE, Nate will pursue the development 𝐴 𝐻𝑎𝑟𝑑 𝐺𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡.

How sensual to be disintegrated into pure energy and return to the cycle.

Rot Hat is a messy, boisterous and joyous work. It’s an ecstatic release and a speculative ceremony to decompose back into the earth and pass through the portal of life and death. With humour and disarming vulnerability, Nate Yaffe reminds us that we are not only consumers but also consumable; that our bodies will one day die and nourish new growth.
The work is live each night — Nate improvises sacrificial rituals helped by Ben Grossman on the Hurdy Gurdy, Thea who coaches Nate throughout the performance, and Nien Tzu who lights the action in real time. Together they recall long lost songs of joy and grief, and medieval dances with logs and rotting fruit.
Nate taps into his neurodivergent body-logic, and becomes the sacred clown. With a subversive naïveté, he reverses the normal order to seed creation through chaos.
Rot Hat will premiere at @summerworksfun August 12-13+15 !
