June 30, 2022 was the first time I went to a Super Smash Bros. tournament at the @deependnyc with @csmcdaniel and tonight I finally won the singles tournament for the first time!

I’ve only played as Little Mac at each weekly tournament and stubbornly refused to change characters until I won with the one who brought me here, and proud to say we finally made it!

(I also went through my text messages and found that the first time I went I texted Anthony/Tony Smith about it, and he endorsed, which warmed my heart remembering him. It felt like I texted him tonight telling him I’d won; the amazing friend that he was, I know he’d be ecstatic for me ♥️)

2) Final Bracket
3) Text with @csmcdaniel from summer 2022 planning our first visit (with bonus monkeypox discussion included)
4/5) Texting Anthony from the bar on my first night

Been working on this for a while, and happy to finally put it out there:

Check out my new podcast: 'Beautiful Losers of History,' a narrative history podcast about the people, movements, and organizations that fought for the right side of history, but ultimately lost. Just because they lost, that doesn't mean they're not worth celebrating and remembering.

So many injustices we are taught in history are presented as if they were inevitable, but this couldn't be further from the case. History is littered with popular opposition to injustice and cruelty, and those stories and people matter just as much as the people we celebrate and revere from history.

Season 1 is about the battle of the Indian Removal Act of 1830, and the first three episodes just dropped. Did you know that the Indian Removal Act only passed by only two votes in Congress, and there was a decade's worth of opposition and resistance to the act before it ultimately became law.

Join me and listen as we explore this chapter of history that is often neglected. Link to the show is in my bio, or you can find it on all major podcast apps. by @nathan.mcdermott

Figured this is good enough for the Grid.

Starting pride weekend off with this great pic @ilewando took a couple months back. Had a fun time seeing how civil war era cameras work on Brooklyn thots.

At the height of lockdown, Anthony invited me to go camping in his backyard in Williamsburg. We both bought tents and everything. But, it turns out the ground was really hard, and the streets are really loud in New York, so by 1 AM, he asked if it was okay to give up and go inside and sleep.

We shared his bed and hit the hay, but I woke up at 4 AM to a loud “THUMP THUMP THUMP” that sounded like it was coming from inside the room. I sat up and looked around but saw nothing. I heard it again but looked over at Anthony, who was still sound asleep. It was eerie, but I was kind of drunk, kind of high, and very exhausted, so I chalked it up to a ghost or an upstairs neighbor; I didn’t really care and went back to sleep.

The next day I told him about it, and he said: “You met the ghost!!”

He was convinced it was a ghost. He loved the supernatural and astrology, while I am the opposite. But I couldn’t explain it, and he was so infectious with his exuberance and that it made me want to believe, too.

A couple of weeks later, he called me and was bouncing off the walls with excitement, saying he found a crumpled old Virgin Mary card wedged between some floorboards in his closet. He was confident it was the totem that kept the ghost (or poltergeist) around and didn’t have any more problems once he discarded it.

That’s the kind of adventures you could expect with Anthony: backyard camping in Brooklyn followed by paranormal encounters.

I love him so much and am so lucky to have had a friend like him. by @nathan.mcdermott

Six months ago @csmcdaniel and I heard rumors of a bar, far into Bushwick, called @deependnyc that had Super Smash Bros. tournaments on Thursday.

Having dabbled in the game, we decided to venture out and test our skills. We were quickly humbled by their prowess there. But tonight, after six months and nearly a dozen appearances, I can say we have won the doubles tournament and claimed out trophies. taken in The Deep End by @nathan.mcdermott
