Recently published a translation of a beautiful book by Wako Amano. She wrote and drew the entire volume herself as a memoir training and volunteering as an interfaith chaplain in Sendai, Japan, site of the tragic tsunami and earthquake of 2011. Its was just a beautiful story and so well done, I really wanted to help make it available to English audiences ...more in the link below.

big life announcement (English after):
I have already told a number of people in person, but will finally say here: i have a big change coming soon. I recently had a ceremony at Koyasan to name me the next abbot of their overseas branch temple in Sacramento, California. It is bittersweet in many ways. I cherish the many special friendships and connections I have made throughout my years in Japan. But I also look forward to serving the community in Sacramento. It will be a great honor to work for this temple and it's people. And I look forward to being closer to some of my family and friends in the US. by @nathanmichon

(日本語は後) It was an honor to spend 8 days at Hida Senkoji Temple in Gifu Prefecture, helping to run the first adapted English training program for "clinical meditation." This program has been going on in Japanese for many years and adapts many meditation traditions to use within clinical settings. Unlike some mindfulness programs that exist, this program developed by Oshita Daien aims to access the wide breadth of different meditation traditions so that various meditations might be better used to fit patients' various needs. I hope this firat trial of an English based program will lead to more development in the future.
by @nathanmichon

An honor to take part in this Meditation and Empathy symposium in Rome over the past week. A beautiful gathering of folks from many different places and traditions. Consistent messages were that we share so much in common, and open hearted compassion can overcome so much. With speaking, moderating, and leader ingredients a meditation and reflection, there were many roles to play, and things to focus on, but meeting all the people there was most special. Also so happy my parents flew to meet me there! by @nathanmichon

It was an honor to take students from my old MA program around for 2 days near Kyoto - and to see Dr. Covell again (my advisor from those days). We spent the first day in Otsu, Shiga, learning about Mikkyo at Miidera and Ishiyama-dera. Then they all survived the Shugendo mountain trek out to Kuya Falls, and the 8 dragon king shrine in the mountains. Best wishes to them all😊🙏 by @nathanmichon

At Ishiyamadera, there is an old legend about a monk who vowed to be reborn as an oni and continue to protect the temple. (Many oni are thought to be monsterous, but this is an example of a good oni!) So the temple has long had an oni festival in honor of this protector oni. ✌️☺️ (And it includes oni taiko and oni dances!) by @nathanmichon
