A 1926 Craftsman bungalow in Oak Park and a homeowner who loves pollinators. We’re excited to have this project featured in the October issue of @landscapeillinois Magazine. Two lawn panels and overgrown foundation evergreens gave way to a native, pollinator-rich planting that lets the house shine and nods to the land’s prairie history. by @nathanwrightlandscape

Kale and cabbage walk into a planter. Turns out they’re the same species and they look great together. A study in brassica at @givanneshoppe by @nathanwrightlandscape

Fall containers don’t need mums. Red mustard and purple pak choi bring texture, depth, and a little surprise, layered with heuchera in warm coral tones. These leafy greens get richer as nights cool, so the planting looks better in November than the day it went in. by @nathanwrightlandscape

It was an evening filled with good conversations, laughter and #creativity and little bit of “get your hands” 🙌🏼 #dirty
Thank you 🙏🏼 for creating such a #lovely experience and let us be part of it 🥰 @designenmasse @nathanwrightlandscape @nuluum @helpinghandil #chicagosummers #networking by @nathanwrightlandscape

It’s moss ball planting this Thursday with our good friends @nathanwrightlandscape and @designenmasse.

Grab a drink, get your hands in the dirt, and top it off with @taylorstacoschicago

Kokedama Workshop, Thursday, August 20th, 5:30 to 8:30 pm at 2714 N California Ave.

We’re teaming up with En Masse and Nuluum for an evening of hands-on moss ball planting, benefiting @helpinghandil . Come learn the art of kokedama, a beautiful way to grow a plant without soil or a pot, just moss, string, and root structure doing all the work.

Drinks included, food available for purchase, and live music all evening. If you’d rather skip the craft table and just soak in the atmosphere, social entry gets you in the door.

$10 social entry, $25 kokedama ticket. Price goes up starting 8/11, so grab your spot now.

The garden doesn’t announce its good days. You just show up early enough in hopes of catching the perfect morning light. by @nathanwrightlandscape

Allium ‘Summer Beauty’ asks a serious question every July: is there such a thing as too many lavender-pink pompoms floating over strappy foliage? We say no. by @nathanwrightlandscape

Bromeliads don’t just tolerate the heat, they get better in it! The color intensifies as temps climb, which makes them one of the few seasonal swaps that actually rewards a brutal Chicago summer instead of fighting it. We paired them with wire vine, the workhorse filler that softens every edge by @nathanwrightlandscape

This boxwood hedge rescue felt like the perfectly misplaced addition to a rusty little studio entry, and we paired it with corten steel accents to bring the whole thing together. Sporty spice plant wagon parked in the tiny space behind for scale. by @nathanwrightlandscape

My instinct always runs toward wild, loose and layered. But good design listens to how a client wants to feel coming home. The driveway, nearly 100 Little Hottie hydrangea flanking either side with allium and sesleria woven through, is simple because that’s what the home wanted. There’s still a place for complex, layered perennials. And there’s still a place for a good old hydrangea.

This is one piece of a much bigger project, more to come as it all fills in, but the driveway wasn’t going to wait its turn. by @nathanwrightlandscape

That’s not a traditional lawn, it’s a Carex lawn! We swapped the grass for a sedge matrix that stays soft underfoot, handles foot traffic from kids and dogs, and never asks for a mower. The trampoline stayed put through the whole install, because a real family yard has to work around real life, not the other way around.

Rethinking what a city lawn can be, one plug at a time. by @nathanwrightlandscape
