Last weekend, I visited the incredible space of @nativeauctions in Brussels and saw their latest show featuring works by Belgian artist Nicolas Eekman. Make sure to stop by next time you’re in Brussels. The space itself feels like an artwork, and the objects and pieces you discover along the way are more than worth your time. by @nativeauctions

Big News at Native!

We’re thrilled to welcome Emmanuel Van de Putte as our new Partner.

Emmanuel’s journey in the art world began early. Growing up in a family passionate about culture, he spent much of his childhood visiting artist studios and museums — experiences that shaped his lifelong love for art.

After earning a degree in Political Science, Emmanuel turned his passion into a career. He started as Director of the Belgian office of German auction house Lempertz, before joining Christie’s Impressionist & Modern Art Department as a specialist, working across Paris, London, and Brussels. Later, he went on to manage the prestigious Chester Collections, a renowned private collection in Switzerland.

For the past 13 years, Emmanuel has been a driving force at Sotheby’s, as head of the Belgian and Luxembourg offices. His role was pivotal: combining pan-European experience with renowned specialist expertise, he built strong relationships with major collectors, advised on high-value consignments, and contributed to some of Europe’s most important auctions. Under his leadership, Sotheby’s reinforced its position as a trusted partner for Belgian and Luxembourg collectors in the global art market.

Now, Emmanuel is bringing this exceptional experience and extensive network to Native, joining founders Nicolas Paszukiewicz and Sebastien Hauwaert to shape an exciting new chapter – one that combines innovation, personalized service, and world-class expertise to create outstanding opportunities for collectors. taken in Native Auctions by @nativeauctions

Twenty years after his death, COLLECT looks back at the life and work of Maarten Van Severen (1956–2005), widely regarded as one of the most important Belgian designers. According to Nick Top of the former interior design firm Top Mouton, Van Severen aimed for perfection in every detail. “As a designer, he combined material, aesthetics and technique to achieve perfect proportions,” he says. This perfectionism is something that collector and designer Frédéric Hooft can attest to. “Although his furniture often looks very simple, it was extremely complex to make. Take the seven-drawer cabinet, for example: there isn't a screw or joint in sight." This pursuit of essence sometimes earned Van Severen the label 'minimalist'. However, he considered himself a maximalist. Despite his difficult early years, major international brands such as Edra, Kartell and Vitra were eager to collaborate with him in the late 90s. “In retrospect, this led to a peculiar paradox,” argues Nicolas Paszukiewicz of the Brussels auction house Native. 'While his chair .03 can be found in museums and homes around the world, his name remains relatively unknown." In late November 2024, a part of the collection of Frédéric Hooft and Stefan Boxy was sold at Native. Frederic Hooft believes that Belgians are not chauvinistic enough. “With this auction, we wanted to give Maarten the international recognition he deserves,” he said. The auction exceeded expectations. Almost all the pieces sold, with several achieving record prices.
