@alawxk As an actress, sometimes friends call in favors, and nothing makes me happier than playing dress-up AND having a role to play. So obviously… YASSSSS. 😂

That day I got to play MODEL. Now, I model… but I’m no model model, feel me?! 😂 Yet somehow I was giving VS Angel meets Devil Wears Prada and for a minute I fully believed I was a SUPERMODEL. 😈🔥

Wardrobe, hair & makeup? We did it ourselves. I packed OPTIONS because actress/coach/casting/producer/director—you know I wear ALL the hats. 🎭

That’s what artists do: we show up, pitch in and help bring somebody’s vision to life. Don’t wait… CREATE. DO IT YOURSELF.

Bravo Candela for making it happen. ❤️ I still have no idea what she’s creating 😝 but I know it’ll be fabulous, and I loved being a little part of it.🤩

First of all my last #JustStart post messed up my quotes AND I messed up my grid 😂 But I don’t care anymore… ish lol. That’s the new me. It doesn’t have to be perfect or exactly ready. JUST START and stick with it.

📕The Power of the Actor changed my life and so many actors’ performances because it’s based on HUMAN BEHAVIOR. Ivana Chubbuck my coach, mentor and mad genius. Everything I do and know stems from her, and hers from Roy London. I also studied with Howard Fine, whose lineage comes from Uta Hagen. I took class with Jason Alexander, who studied with Larry Moss. I read Larry’s The Intent to Live and even got accepted into his personal Master Class weekend I couldn’t afford it then, but ONE DAY!

Teachers have teachers. Actors have teachers. We keep learning. I STILL TRAIN.

This is BTS of me doing the work: saying my inner monologue OUT LOUD, raising the stakes, substitutions, place and fourth wall even using my old BKNY apt building. (These are NOT the lines)

And if you noticed I didn’t use my blue-wall backdrop, lately I’ve been told it can be distracting, and since she’s a junkie I thought muted worked better. Yet ANOTHER thing in my head during the self-tape process lol.

The breakdown said NY JUNKIE and the casting director specifically noted: LEAN INTO THE JUNKIE PART A LOT. So I did.

I sent it to my sister, like I always do, and she said, “Nat… why did you make her white trailer trash?! A junkie doesn’t have to have loose teeth! What about a Brittany Murphy type NY junkie?” 😂

OKAYYYY. So I tried another choice—bump in the hair, bralette, different vibe.

Looking back, even I cringe, especially after Scott Vickers’ class. Why didn’t I trust my INITIAL instinct and COMMIT? We don’t have the casting director in the room anymore to redirect our self-tapes. Make choices. Do the work. COMMIT.

And yes, that voice reading with me is @jdiamant10 ! That’s what I love about the Lymor Coaching family—we speak the same language. We’re a community across states and around the world, connecting, creating and MAKING PROJECTS.

I HAD A VISION… and I wanted to get it right. 🎬✨

I knew EXACTLY what I wanted for this TikTok trend — which I usually don’t even do because seriously… who has time for this shit?! 😂

But my beautiful friend @lena_yorinda showed up for me and helped bring my crazy vision to life. ❤️ And truthfully? It’s STILL not exactly what I saw in my head. Another edit is coming, and I’ll share that one too.

But today I realized… WHY AM I WAITING?

That’s literally the message.

I can post this one AND another one. I probably have 10 different creative ways I could make this video, but then there’s time, money, life… blah blah blah.

So… #JUSTSTART.

For me, this was never really about a TikTok trend. It was about how this song made me FEEL.

We spend so much time fighting with the stories inside our own heads — what we can or can’t do, what’s right or wrong, what people think, relationships, politics, the world, our past, our fears, our expectations…

It’s ALL happening in our heads.

And somewhere in all that noise, we have to remember:

BE FREE.
BE YOU.
DO YOU.
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.
STOP ASKING PERMISSION TO BE WHO YOU ARE.

Laugh at life. Play. Change your mind. Wear what you want. Love who you want. Believe what you believe. Let people think whatever they’re going to think.

There are pieces of ME throughout this video — actress, creator, woman, friend, Egyptian/Arabic, proudly Jewish, silly, emotional, complicated, FREE. ✡️🪬❤️

Different characters. Different emotions. Different versions of me.

Because we’re ALL a million things at once.

And maybe freedom isn’t finally getting everything perfect.

Maybe freedom is realizing it doesn’t HAVE to be.

So here’s me taking my own advice: posting the imperfect version, letting go of what I thought it “should” be, and JUST STARTING.

The trend? Just do it. 😉 Yes, Nike… you were onto something.

As an actor, understanding your character isn’t enough. You need to understand the world your character is being created inside of.

Who writes? Who directs? What does the DP do? What does casting do? What do producers and showrunners do? Who makes the decisions? Who influences them? Where do YOU fit?

A FEW AHA MOMENTS:

The writer isn’t just writing dialogue. They’re creating the world, characters, conflict, and story engine.

The director isn’t just directing actors. They’re communicating a vision across an entire team.

The DP isn’t just operating a camera. They’re creating the visual language of the story.

Casting isn’t just finding someone who can act. They’re helping determine who belongs in the world of the project.

When you understand the jobs, the business stops feeling like a mysterious machine happening TO you.

You start seeing how the pieces move.

Think of your career like a chessboard.

You have to be on the board to make a move.

Know when to advance. When to protect yourself. When to listen. When to build relationships. When to learn. And when NOT to move.

You have to play the game.

Not by manipulating people.

By understanding the game.
Understanding the people.
Understanding the process.

Then making your next best move.

The video I’m posting with this #TechniqueTuesday is a short film I did a few weeks ago, and it’s a perfect example of why we have to keep training, playing, and using those acting muscles.

Yes, we still have to train. Always. Take off the training wheels. Get uncomfortable. Try something new. Play around and see what happens.

I took an acting class and did my French-Hebrew mother accent on stage—NOT this one 😂—and some industry professionals happened to see it. One of them thought, “Oh, Natalie could play Parisa in my short film.”

And guess what? YES. This actually happened.

I took an acting class → played around → got seen → got a paid role → got footage → made something fun.

So… fuck around and find out. 😂 Stay in the game anyway.

This industry moves FAST. New platforms, new verticals, new formats, AI, short-form, long-form, branded content, short films… the rules are basically changing while we’re playing.

So enjoy the ride.

Your journey doesn’t have to look one specific way. Be flexible. Be adaptable. Stay curious. Try things. Fail at some. Learn from others. Keep moving. Play. Experiment. Take the weird opportunity. Make the short film. Tell the story that has no obvious place to live yet.

And have fun along the way.

For me, that’s why I became an actress. I’m in it to play. To have fun. To step into the shoes of lives I could have lived if I had been born somewhere else—another country, another state, another status, another lifetime, another era, or maybe somewhere completely beyond this world.

To explore all the versions of me I could be.

That’s the magic of acting. We get to live a thousand lives without having to live them all literally.

The goal isn’t to predict exactly where this industry is going. It’s to stay adaptable enough to keep creating when it gets there.

Stay in the game. Play hard. Stay adaptable. Enjoy the ride.

We’re kicking off our #EpisodicSeason with a very special guest: Writer/Director/Producer Michael C. Martin. @new_money_mike

With 15+ years in film & TV, Michael was named one of Variety’s 10 Screenwriters to Watch in 2008. His credits include Brooklyn’s Finest, Sleeper Cell, 10 Cent Pistol, Lethal Weapon, and Bad Monkey, among many others. Check IMDb for his full resume.

This is NOT just about credits. This is about learning the BUSINESS of show business.

Actors, come with questions — the ones you’ve always wondered about AND the ones you never thought to ask.

What does “first choice” really mean? I’m talking about the actor the creative team already knows, trusts and specifically wants. How does that happen? Does a writer write with an actor in mind? Does being a “name” change things? How do shows get picked up or passed on? How does casting actually factor into all of this?

And yes… what about the eternal question writers with actor friends hear: “WRITE ME IN!” 😂 I’ve definitely said it to Michael. Knowing an actor doesn’t mean you have to write them in — but if you WANT to, you can. So what makes a writer think, “THIS actor”?

What is it like working with major directors like Antoine Fuqua and actors like Jenna Malone, Vince Vaughn and many others? What does a writer learn from being in those rooms?

Michael and I also have a little history. Years ago, he auditioned me for a role in 10 Cent Pistol, a film he wrote. I did very well, but the role ultimately went to the phenomenal Jenna Malone — and the film needed a recognizable name. I wasn’t a name yet. Yet. 😉 That audition introduced me to @lisazambetticasting , who later gave me my first co-star credit on Criminal Minds. THAT is this industry. One opportunity, one connection, one relationship can lead somewhere you never expected.

We’ll also talk about representation, writing jobs, how projects get made, why some shows get picked up and others don’t, and how Michael balances career, creativity, family and being a dad of two.

So here’s my annual obligatory, gratuitous thirst trap. 🐆 July 28th. This Leo lion can’t be tamed. I’ve been caged long enough, so it’s time to get wild, get free, and celebrate another trip around the sun. 🦁✨ #ItsMyBirthday

I’m old AF. Good thing I’m funny. I’m basically a chaos jaguar wandering through Wonderland, so the only thing I plan on getting high on is life… because it’s my birthday time!! 💃🏻

#TechniqueTuesday
If you’ve been thinking about joining, now’s the time.

Acting has a million layers. Just like the industry itself, there isn’t one technique that makes someone a working actor—it’s the ability to understand and develop the many layers of the craft. That’s what makes today’s conversation such an important foundation.

Technique vs. Technicalities.The work always starts with the script.

As actors, our first responsibility is to break down the material, understand the relationships, identify the assignment, uncover the beats, and make truthful, specific choices. That’s the heart of the work.

Then come the technical choices. Once your acting is grounded in the script, your knowledge of self-taping helps bring those choices to life through intentional eyelines, wardrobe, framing, status, pacing, connection with your reader, and all of the technical elements that support the story you’re telling. Technique and technicalities aren’t separate—they work together to create a confident, compelling take.

Your technical choices should never replace your acting—they should elevate it. The other topics in this week’s series continue building on that foundation.

Wednesday 15 – The Business of Show Business
