It’s been about 5 years since Ryann was last in a Nutcracker production. Seventeen… wait. WHAT?! How did we get here so fast?! 🥹

To the one who made me a mom when I wasn’t quite ready, but who God blessed me with and called me to step into that role for—I have learned and grown right alongside you as you’ve grown into the young woman you are becoming.

It hasn’t always been an easy ride, that’s for sure. 😂 And while you practically danced your way out of the womb, you’ve kept me on my toes the entire time.

You are beautiful, creative, funny, strong-willed and independent, with very definite ideas about who you are and what you want.

I’ve watched you spend countless hours in dance studios, backstage, at rehearsals, competitions and performances. I’ve watched incredible highs and really hard disappointments. I’ve watched you question yourself, regroup, change direction, try again and keep growing.

And somewhere along the way, I realized the thing I’m most proud of isn’t what you can do on a stage.

It’s who you are becoming off of it. ❤️

You have such a tender heart. You love your people deeply. You are social, silly, sometimes a little sassy 😉, creative, curious and wonderfully yourself.

Now I’m watching you step onto this bigger stage of life—driving, looking for a job, navigating homeschooling, thinking about life after high school, stepping into leadership at dance, volunteering at church, being a responsible BIG sister and dreaming about your future.

And there’s not much left for me to do but cheer you on from the sidelines because, BABY, once you have your heart and mind set on something, there’s not much I can do to convince you otherwise. 😅

I hope at 17 you know you don’t have to have everything figured out. You can change your mind. Take a different path. Fail spectacularly and try again. Grow into a life that looks completely different from the one you once imagined.

Through every version of you, I will be here.

Never forget how deeply you are loved—not because of what you accomplish, how you dance, what you look like or what you become. Simply because you are YOU.

Hanging out on campus today. Went to the May WildLife Rehab Center for a tour and met Jeff Corwin! There’s a new series airing Oct 3 called Southern Wild on ABC that highlights NC wildlife and features Lees-McRae College! Exploring river rocks and soccer games and Alumni Tailgating. Couldn’t have asked for a better 45th birthday than to celebrate at Lees-McRae College homecoming in Banner Elk, NC! I haven’t been up here in at least 10 years. The campus has changed so much!
Got to stay the night in Charlotte with my bestie, Joliette Emma Juncadella Welch. This morning we had brunch with Michael in Statesville. Then we drove up to campus. This evening Matthew and I attended an alumni dinner and tomorrow we will participate in whatever homecoming festivities they have planned. I’m truly blessed to be here and thank you to all who messaged, texted, posted and called me today.
