𝘽𝙊𝙊𝙆𝙎 𝙄 𝙁𝙄𝙉𝙄𝙎𝙃𝙀𝘿 ~ 𝘽𝙊𝙊𝙆𝙎 𝙏𝙃𝘼𝙏 𝙁𝙄𝙉𝙄𝙎𝙃𝙀𝘿 𝙈𝙀 ~ 𝘽𝙊𝙊𝙆𝙎 𝙄 𝘾𝙊𝙐𝙇𝘿𝙉’𝙏 𝙒𝘼𝙄𝙏 𝙏𝙊 𝙁𝙄𝙉𝙄𝙎𝙃

this one has been bopping around booksta for a while (thanks for the tag, @kaitkeepsreading !!!!!!) and figured it was finally time i do it! added books i couldn’t wait to finish aka either a dnf or low rated read for me as a lil twist to the standard layout of this. books i finished, to me, are books i really enjoyed that were 4/5 star reads and books that finished me were books that emotionally devastated me or changed me in some significant way.

turns out pretty much every gothic book i own is also black! who would have thought! being one of my favourite sub genres, gothic books definitely pretty significantly take over my library. there are also a ton that i’ve read on kindle that i don’t own copies of (see: waiting til they pop up on book outlet so i can own a shelf trophy). hoping to get through some of the classics (frankenstein and dracula especially 👀) next year.

it’s no secret that i am a massive supporter of everything aardvark does. not only are they a canadian company (🥳) but they have the best book selections and prices of any book box i’ve ever seen! if you don’t know, now you know. and they also have the cutest hardbacks ever and i’m obsessed with their branding, which is why they’re getting highlighted here 😌 happy 4th anniversary queen!!!!

𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒 𝐁𝐘 @ceejthemoment 🐺🔦🏔️

i actually can’t stop won’t stop recommending this book to anyone and everyone that exists that hasn’t read it yet. the reason i haven’t posted about it besides the day i received it is because it has been making steady movement through my friend group as i force everyone in my life to read it 😂 (don’t judge, i need ppl in real life that i can gush about it with)

this was the first horror book that i’ve read that i was like YUP everything about this book is exactly for me. my elevator pitch is basically: hannibal (the tv show) meets the shining meets absurd cosmic horror with a sexy bit of cannibalism, cults, and romance. as someone who has been chasing the high i got from watching hannibal, who loves a crime scene investigator with a paranormal twist, this book did EXACTLY that for me. my jaw was on the floor, and having buddy read it with @annrenayyy , it was so fun to get to talk it through in real time and discuss our theories as the story played out!!

this is a 5 ⭐️ to infinity read, and is certainly in my top 3 favourite reads of the year!!!!!

and now owning a the beautiful and stunning @owlcrate edition?! i can continue passing my @aardvarkbookclub edition around knowing this copy will be sitting pretty on my shelf 🥰

𝐖𝐄 𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄 𝐄𝐌 𝐒𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐇𝐈𝐂 (𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐎𝐑𝐑 𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍) 🎀👻

happy sapphic september!! i took a look on my shelf, and turns out a large chuck on my horror section is sapphic—this wasn’t even all of them i own!!! i’ve read about half of these so far, and i think most, if not all, were a minimum of 4 star reads for me. it also felt like a good time to highlight them on my feed with october right around the corner!

i think sapphic horror hits for me because it subverts traditional horror tropes. its almost like a reclamation of the narrative where instead of being cast as the villain or victim, we get an empowered protagonist taking the reigns on outcome of their story however bloody and gruesome it may be.

𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐫 𝐮𝐧𝐚 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲….. 💭

𝗤𝗢𝗧𝗗: is there a bookish trend/trope/theme you wish had lasted longer?

i keep thinking about how lady knights were SO massive on the popular market last year, and i wish that trend would have lasted longer 😭 it was so refreshing seeing a predominantly masculine role flipped on its head, and has me yearning for more. outside of the obvious sequel to the knight and the moth, i don’t think i’ve seen a single one??

in other news, my @illumicrate SE of the everlasting is due to ship soon (and earlier than expected?!) and i can’t wait to get my hands on that exceptionally gorgeous copy 😭 this book took me by storm last year and has my whole heart and soul. alix e harrow is a master at her craft, and i have yet to experience the same level of emotion she is able to conjure in me in any other book i have ever read. i have a feeling it will be my prized possession!! taken in BOOKSTA by @natreadsfantasy

keeping it simple today with some lovely green covers—don’t they look so pretty together??! i’ve read the bog wife (4.5/5 stars) but haven’t read wolf worm or where the dark stands still yet. they seem like the perfect spooky season reads!

𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 ✨🪩

happy monday everyone!!! it’s a chilly day today here in ontario, and i’m having the best time cuddled up on my couch with my doggy!! is there anything better than a crisp fall day with the sun still shining?? going to take the doggy on a nice walk through the farm in a little bit to take advantage ☀️

𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚: currently in the midst of my ninth house reread!!!! i am locked TF in right now—hoping to finish it in the next couple hours, then get as far through hell bent as i can today prior to the dead beat release tomorrow!!!!! i realized that since its been so long since i read this series (3 years ago now), i actually don’t remember most of the plot. so thank god i made time for it 😂

𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗢: my best friends exorcism by @gradyhendrix. i’ve read 3 of his books this year, and it seems like they will all be 5 stars ⭐️🤩 he’s definitely become one of my favourite authors!

𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚: community is back on netflix and i couldn’t resist giving it a rewatch. it was my comfort series for many years, so it feels super nostalgic to be back at greendale community college, especially during this time of year

𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗙𝗨𝗟 𝗙𝗢𝗥: it’s finally fall time 🍂🥹 i’m loving this cooler weather, i feel so comfy and cozy all the time with my sweatpants and sweaters. i wish i could live in permanent fall!!

𝗚𝗢𝗔𝗟𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞: i need to go through my summer/winter clothes and start packing some things away!! other than that, you will find my nose in a book every free second i have available this week 🙂‍↕️

𝗤𝗢𝗧𝗗: do you ever not want to pick up a book series because you know you’ll love it and will be sad when it’s over?

enter: the shades of magic series! i LOVE everything @veschwab writes (definitely an if she writes it, i read it kind of author). one of my good friends gifted me this set, so now that i have physical copies, there’s NO reason for me to continually put it off and blame it on not owning the books 🫠 this actually happens to me all the time with books—there really is no reason for me not to read it, but i just get a mental block and can’t lol this same thing is happening to me right now with ballad of fallen dragons, the blood plagues, and my arcs of cursed city, the thief and the traitor bride, and with hearts of flame. sometimes i just gotta be like “girl chill, it’s not that serious 😂 taken in BOOKSTA by @natreadsfantasy

𝐅𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐓𝐁𝐑 & @bookoutlet 𝐇𝐀𝐔𝐋 ✨

if you haven’t heard of book outlet before, wallet be warned this, this may be the best and worst thing to ever happen to you! recent and old releases a plenty, all for usually 1/3 the price of big box retailers????? YES PLSSSSS

couldn’t resist doing a massive horror haul, because honestly, it’s all i want to read lately. we endure the horrors daily, so why not read about them too 😇 many of these have been on my tbr for years, so i am so excited i was able to snap them up for a steal. i’ve been loving everything that @ceejthemoment, @authorcstarling and @rachelharrisonsghost are doing lately, so those books will definitely be a priority the next few months!!!

if you want to save some money on your first order, use the link in my bio to purchase and we’ll both get some money to be irresponsible with 🥹
