I’m so grateful to share my newest sculptural work, “Shauku”, as part of the beautiful exhibit, Haleta: ሀሌታ | The Threshold of Being at the @ottawaartgallery

Shauku is a Swahili word that speaks to a deep yearning or longing for something distant, something beyond reach.

Through sculpted wax, I explore the quiet ache of holding onto memories, connections, and the people and places that continue to shape us even in their absence. At the centre, an illuminated anatomical heart is surrounded by fragmented faces and held just beyond the reach of cupped hands which is a reflection of the things we wish we could hold onto, but cannot fully keep.

This piece is deeply personal to me, and I’m incredibly grateful to be part of an exhibit with such talented artists that brings together so many different words, cultures, and interpretations of feelings that, despite being difficult to translate, are universally felt.

A huge thank you to @eph.anart for once again being such an influence and guiding light in this process. I am grateful to my friends and family who have supported me and believed in me throughout this process.

Thank you as well to @natgallerycan , @ottawaartgallery & @_obak_ for all their support and the opportunity to have my first exhibit piece in a long running show.

Check out “Shauku” at the @ottawaartgallery until November 8th & stop by @oagshop_annexe to find a collection of @natscraftsstudio candles🕯️ by @natscraftsstudio

I’m beyond grateful to present my first exhibited art piece:

“Where the Light Remains”, 2026
Sculpted Wax, Edition 1

This would not have been possible without @eph.ana , curator of the heartfelt exhibit “Home Beyond Borders.” Her belief in me and my chosen medium, along with her encouragement, inspiration, and unwavering support, helped me bring to life a childhood dream I thought I had left behind because I didn’t fit the mold of what I believed an artist should be.

The motivation behind this piece for “Home Beyond Borders” comes from the emotional meaning of home and the ways people carry it through memory, identity, and experience. I was inspired by the idea that home is not always tied to one physical place, but can exist through feelings of comfort, belonging, culture, and connection.

As the candles burn, melt, and change shape over time, they reflect the fragility, impermanence, and evolving nature of home itself. The glowing, melting houses symbolize the possibility of thriving beyond conventional definitions of what a home is, not being confined by its structure, but carrying its light beyond it.

Another special thank you to @debaser__ for having this exhibited at their 5 year anniversary for PIQUE @ottawaartgallery by @natscraftsstudio
