Just over 3 weeks ago I slipped whilst out running in the woods and had a bit of a fall... fell onto a tree branch that was in the ground.
Felt something pop and then immediately saw a very large lump on my leg appear.

Hobbled to the road (30 mins), got picked up by @morgan_glazier thank you and got some advice from @wildcard_katie
It was all a bit surreal and didn't want to go to hospital (prob a bit scared).

As the week went on I had a very large lump under my knee and quite a lot of bruising all down my leg. I decided to get an MRI just to check I hadn't damaged anything, fortunately only had to wait a few days.

Some fluid at the top of the tibia and in the knee, a very large haematoma and just trauma to the leg.

So with a 100km mountain event on the cards, training had to be adapted, a lot of uphill (no pain) and cycling. Then trying out the downhill (no pain). I've managed to very good running and hiking in the mountains, so we shall see what happens on race day next week 🀞🀞 by @natsmountain

Who doesn't like a good rough trail?

Today's outing was certainly that. I think I picked the roughest trail... pretty good practice for the next race. by @natsmountain

It's a sad time at the moment in our area. Unfortunately a lightning strike earlier in the week struck the mountain and now a huge wildfire has spread.
Lots of firefighters, helicopters and aeroplanes carrying water are trying to extinguish the fire. Some homes have been evacuated and the mountain rifugios too.

We really hope the fire is contained soon and also we need rain! by @natsmountain

Iced Espresso πŸ˜‹

After an early morning long run where the sun wasn't out but the humidity was high, I quite fancied a cold coffee.

Pretty simple iced espresso - ice, espresso, blender = perfect way to cool down and also have your morning coffee β˜•οΈ πŸ˜€ by @natsmountain

Seems like every run at the moment is stopping off at any streams, rivers or mountains.
I've been running with ice to keep cool and also dipping my cap in any water to keep myself cool... seems to be working πŸ˜‰ by @natsmountain

Post-race update!

Legs are actually feeling really good! My toes took a bit of a battering, but they're on the mend. Right now it's more sleepy tired than sore... probably not helped by a pretty broken night's sleep before the race and a 3am alarm! 😴

I think I raced pretty conservatively. I wasn't sure how my body would hold up, and with the heat being so intense, I really didn't want to blow up. Every time I tried to push the pace, I could feel my body temperature rising and my heart rate climbing, so I backed off and focused on keeping things under control.

Fuel-wise, I stuck to the plan and kept eating and drinking throughout, even front-loading a little more knowing it was only going to get hotter. I used Enervit 40g gels, Enervit chews (30g per pack), iced gels (40g), much-needed Calippo's from my amazing crew, plenty of cold Coke, Enervit Energy drink (60g), and SiS electrolytes. The final few hours ended up being a flask of Coke and the chews, which kept me moving. I also wore my ice bandana for the entire race, and it definitely earned its place.

It turned into a much longer day out than I'd expected. The heat made everything feel harder, and the trails were rough and demanding, although there were some lovely runnable sections to break things up.

Not the easiest day, but I'm happy with how I managed it. Sometimes the smartest race isn't the fastest one, it's the one where you adapt to the conditions, keep fuelling, and keep moving forward. 🌞 by @natsmountain

Been busy today saving a newborn baby bat.
I found it in the yard wriggling around and must have fallen from the roof.

Managed to find the right people to contact to ask for some advice. I was able to take the little sweetheart to some wonderful people in Biella who help in these situations.
This is a photo after it had its first feed this afternoon... let's hope it stays strong ❀️🀞 by @natsmountain
