Life changing. I still cannot find the words to properly describe what it is like to see, interact and engage with gray whales in nature. They are curious. They are funny. They are gentle. They are playful. To then share these moments with beautiful human souls as well … forever grateful. 💕 I’m already planning my return. Hit me up if you want to join me next year.

Our first morning in Krabi started with a stroll along the beach. Then we found a trail called Monkey Trail. No monkeys were found, but the higher we climbed, the more we wondered what was on the other side.

Turns out, this was.

The trail leads to a secluded resort beach, with limestone cliffs rising straight out of the Andaman Sea. Not a bad first morning in Thailand. 🇹🇭

There’s something about watching a sunset while traveling. It’s the end of one day, but there’s always another day of the adventure waiting.

This time, the day ended looking up at old Lyon from the water.

One of my favorite things about flying is chasing a sunset. ✈️🌅

From the ground, sunset is over before you know it. But up here, it feels like the sun comes along for the ride.

Flying west, you can stretch those last golden minutes across time zones, watching the sky change while the day seems to refuse to end.

Honestly, I could happily spend an entire flight looking out this window.

When the present takes a field trip to the past.

We were exploring Teotihuacán when a group of Mexican military personnel came through on an excursion, and something about the contrast stopped me. Modern Mexico, in uniform, walking through a city built nearly 2,000 years ago.

Teotihuacán grew into one of the largest cities in the ancient Americas, reaching its height between roughly the 1st and 7th centuries. The Pyramid of the Sun alone was built around 100 BCE–250 CE and rises about 65 meters above the valley.

Fun fact: “Teotihuacán” is Nahuatl for “the place where the gods were created.” The name was given by the Mexica centuries after the city had already been abandoned, and we still don’t know what its original inhabitants called it.

Travel tip: Get there early. There’s very little shade once you’re out among the pyramids, and the heat really catches up with you. INAH recommends arriving around 8–9 AM, when the site is cooler and the light is beautiful.

Ancient city. Modern Mexico. One unexpected field trip.

Día de los Muertos arrives early in Old Town, San Diego. 💀🌼

The courtyard at Fiesta de Reyes is transformed with ofrendas, marigolds, Catrinas and skeletons honoring the dead. It’s colorful, elaborate and, yes, very much touristy.

Still, as a local, this is one of my favorite times to visit.

Día de los Muertos has roots that stretch back thousands of years to Mesoamerican cultures, with traditions centered around remembering and welcoming loved ones who have died. Today, the holiday continues in many different forms, including the community altars, workshops and candlelit procession held in Old Town.

It’s worth remembering that Día de los Muertos is more than decorations and photo opportunities. San Diego has deeper, community-led traditions for honoring the holiday, and there are many ways to experience them authentically. If you’re visiting, seek out the local families, artists and cultural organizations keeping these traditions alive.

The Fiesta de Reyes decorations are up September 1 through November 2 this year. 💀🌼

One of the most impressive museums I’ve been to, and not just because of what’s inside.

The Museo Nacional de Antropología is filled with incredible art and artifacts, but I was just as taken with the architecture. The geometric grid wrapping the second floor turns even the space around an ordinary window into something worth photographing.

And thankfully, there are benches everywhere because this is the kind of museum where your feet eventually file a formal complaint.

Mexico City, you really know how to build a museum. If you’re visiting, give yourself more time here than you think you’ll need.

The repeating grid surrounds the windows and creates a striking architectural pattern along the open-air walkway. The museum is renowned for its art and artifacts, but its architecture is a sight worth noticing too. taken in Museo De Antropología by @nattidd

Rain changed our plans in Taipei and led us somewhere we might have otherwise missed.

The covered hallways of the National Revolutionary Martyrs’ Shrine became a destination of their own. Black-and-white floors, repeating columns, and rain falling along the edges.

Sometimes the weather doesn’t get in the way of the trip. It changes what you see.
