Straight up ghetto, @icecube, baby!

Best comment from my very first trick-or-treater tonight:

“I like your Ice Cube costume, but why do you have pictures of that man all over it?”

Me: “That’s Ice Cube! He’s an old-school rapper.”

Kid: “Ohhhh, my dad would LOVE it!”

Officially old…thanks kid.

Thanks for the inspiration @sofia.towers_

What a beautiful way to celebrate @noregreta69 40th. 🌸

We laughed, wandered and hung out in the most incredible flower garden, listening to @mpprefontaine tell us about her journey into flower growing — and how just a year ago, none of this was even part of her life plan.

Grete may have gotten a little tipsy and somehow left with two picked flowers 😂 while @mariefranceroy and I walked away with giant, beautiful bouquets. Seems fair. And thanks to Rainbow for helping make our bouquets just a little brighter.

@kittredhead and @sethwescott have created something really special at @zaroparanch, and I can’t wait to see where it all goes from here.

Happy 40th, Grete. 💕🌸 Here’s to owning your shit, making questionable decisions in flower gardens, and filling the memory bank so damn full that we’ll have stories to laugh about when we’re 80.

Love you, G-Baby. Here’s to the next 40. ❤️ by @nattocatto

I grew up in a newspaper family. My grandparents, Rudy and Inge Langmann (pics 5,6,8) bought a little paper called The Echo in Aldergrove in 1966 and quickly renamed it The Aldergrove Star because they didn’t want to be an echo to anyone else. If you know a Langmann, you know. We do things our own way.
My dad @kurtlangmann was just 13 when his first photograph — a British jet flying over the Abbotsford Airshow — made the front page. He went on to spend over 45 years as a photographer, journalist and editor, documenting the people and stories of the community he loved and retired in 2019.

Dad dragged me to every event imaginable — and somehow always managed to sneak us into the paper. It was mortifying. Until I became a teenager and discovered his superpower: he could get me into concerts. Suddenly, being the newspaper guy’s daughter wasn’t so embarrassing. (Read the link in my bio for the story of how he took me to Seabird Island to see The Tragically Hip.). I watched Dad give his heart and soul to Aldergrove and to the news. Through all the ups and downs of the newspaper industry, he kept showing up and telling his community’s stories with dignity, curiosity and pride.
This year marks 60 years of The Aldergrove Star, and the @aldergrove_heritage Society (pic 1, Tami Quiring) presented Dad with its first-ever Community Legacy Award for his decades of journalism, community leadership and work preserving local history.
And that one got me.
Dad taught me that journalism and life isn’t about chasing the loudest story or biggest headline. It’s about looking at things from every angle, listening, being curious about the person behind the story, and letting people have their moment.
When he retired, he told me he just couldn’t write about clickbait anymore. Honestly, I think that says everything. He believed people deserved better.
I spent my childhood trying desperately NOT to end up in the newspaper. Turns out, I’m pretty damn proud that I did. Dad, you taught me that everyone gets their time to shine — and how important it is to show up and make sure they get it.
And how lucky am I that, in this lifetime, I get to be here to watch you have your moment to shine. ❤️ by @nattocatto

Ahh, I blinked… Sofia just wrapped up Grade 7 at Signal Hill Elementary School and is heading into high school next year at Pemberton Secondary School.

Somehow we’ve been living inside her “next stage of life” announcements since she was three.

At 3, she came home from daycare convinced she was starting kindergarten with all her friends. She immediately started telling everyone she was going to kindergarten. I had to gently explain she still had two more years of daycare. She was not impressed.

At 4, same declaration. Still early.

At 5, she was telling anyone who would listen that she was DONE with daycare and off to Signal Hill.

Then the pattern kept going: Grade 5 watching friends move on to PSS, Grade 6 watching more leave, and now Grade 7… finally her turn.

And honestly, I think she’s been ready for years to go to high school. Always living a couple years ahead of the rest of us.

My only hope is that this pattern continues… and in Grade 10 she starts announcing, loudly and confidently, that she’s off to university, and actually starts packing a bag.

Proud of you, @sofia.towers_ Always stay in the fast lane.

Thank you to all the friends, teachers and assistants and especially the most wonderful Principal at Signal Hill. It’s been a slice! by @nattocatto

A year behind the scenes at @rndsearch taught me a lot.

Just got back, and after working on that event for the past year, I can honestly say it’s been nothing short of an honour to work with @robinvangyn. Eye-opening. She calls it like it is, sticks to her vision, and makes it happen.

It’s not always easy putting your snowboard aside to work BTS. Someone told me this from the athlete lounge: when a new rider asked who “Natalie” was (the one she’d been emailing with), another girl replied:

“the devil works hard, but Natalie works harder.”
Thank you… I’ve never felt more seen. 😅

For so long, it felt like the same names carrying women’s backcountry freestyle — Robin, @hibeams, @mariefranceroy, @leannepelosi, and others. But why does it take women so long to get there? Finish a slopestyle/X Games career, film in the streets, then blow up in the backcountry? Where are the women inspiring the next generation to buy sleds, hike big lines, and build backcountry features?

Now, when an 18-year-old like Billy Pelchat wins RnD and heads to NST, you start to wonder… has the timeline changed? Will women look at @billy_pelchat and say, I can do that too?

I know it worked for me… When I was a teen, we watched Victoria Jealouse and @karleen.jeffery. My best riding partner moved to Alaska, I moved to Chamonix and La Grave, with dreams of laying down the kind of lines Karleen was doing. I was hellbent on finding a way. Then I came back to Whistler… and bought a sled. (Yes, I’m UNC.)

Maybe we’re watching the changing of the guard in real time.

This shift wouldn’t be happening without Robin and RnD — from THIS generation of riders already making it to NST, like @ellery_manning_, @estellepensiero, and Billy, to riders like @sarkasnow, carving her own path after stepping away from contest careers, or @yukafujiforest, leaving her young child in Japan to compete, win 2nd, and go on to @naturalselectionsnow this week. These are the women redefining how we ride mountains.
Maybe, just maybe, the next generation won’t have to wait so long to get there.

Thank you to all the incredible Filmers, photographers, and BTS people that I get to work with on this project. Till next year! by @nattocatto

In 2008, I got a call asking if I wanted to start a new snowboard magazine in Canada. I said, hell yeah. You might’ve heard of it — @kingsnowmag?

I dove in headfirst — pushing to fly to Vegas for the tradeshow so we could meet every company face-to-face and talk advertising.

I worked a full year with no budget and no pay, always told the money would come once the first issue launched. I ran the website, hunted for stories, and convinced photographers, filmers, and riders to share content when no one wanted to give anything away for free. I interviewed riders, wrote articles, and made it happen — all out of pure passion.

When planning the first issue for Fall 2009, it was a no-brainer to interview @da_gallant. That story became one of the best experiences of my life — chasing Martin and @pascalgallant around, rope-swinging, shooting bows and arrows, living farm life, and eventually learning to ride a dirt bike in Martin’s mom’s rubber boots.

I called it The Martin Gallant Show because his life felt larger than life — a blur of dirt, laughter, throttle, and plot twists…like Playboy bunnies.

When the magazine came out, I was told I wouldn’t be paid for the year I’d worked. That was the breaking point. I left — heartbroken and exhausted.

Still, what stayed with me wasn’t disappointment — it was that interview. It became something I’ll hold close forever.

Whenever things felt heavy, I’d remember his words:

“It’s been the same questions, like what’s your stance, for the past twenty years. Right now it’s sunny, and it rained last night; let’s go twist the throttle.”

That line stuck with me. It reminded me that no matter what’s falling apart, there’s always a moment to shift your perspective. Forget the bullshit. Just go live your life.

As most of you know, Martin has stage 4 pancreatic cancer, with metastases to his stomach and liver. There’s a fundraiser online and at his place this Saturday. I wish I could be there to hug you, my friend — but I know you got this. Slash this shit. 💜 Donate if you can: https://www.gofundme.com/f/slasssshhh-cancer-help-martin-through-da-bump-in-da-road …or hit link in bio.

It’s really hard to explain to someone what it was like growing up with hippy parents.

We used to beg our mom to take down all her nude photos and the giant painting of her on a rock (naked) in our living room. She’s 77 now and still has them up at her house.

In her world, expressing yourself freely didn’t require clothes.

My niece sums it up best, “Grandma, at least you’re not boring.”
