We found a hole in the rock at Little Beach in Ucluelet…
And inside — sea stars, quietly glowing in the shadows.
It felt as if the Universe itself was breathing from the depths of the Earth.
The ocean, the stone, the stars — all perfectly still, yet full of life.
Nature whispers here.
Miracles live in silence.
You just need to look with your heart.

Little Beach – A Hidden Gem in Ucluelet, BC
Ancient Indigenous Land
💙Little Beach sits on the traditional territory of the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ First Nation, part of the Nuu-chah-nulth peoples. Archaeological evidence shows this area was inhabited for thousands of years. The name Ucluelet means “people of the safe harbor.”
❤️Natural Tide Pool Wonderland
This small sheltered cove is known for its rocky shores, tide pools, and an incredible variety of marine life:
🌟 sea stars
🦀 crabs
🐙 anemones
🦦 otters and sometimes even seals nearby!
💙Perfect for Exploring
Unlike many beaches, Little Beach is ideal for:
tide pooling
paddleboarding & kayaking
peaceful shoreline walks
meditative moments surrounded by nature
❤️Part of the Wild Pacific Trail
Located near the famous Wild Pacific Trail, Little Beach is a serene stop along this scenic coastal path, with views of ancient forests, rugged coastline, and crashing waves.
💙Close to Amphitrite Point Lighthouse
Just a short walk away is the Amphitrite Point Lighthouse, built in 1915 to help ships navigate through stormy Pacific waters. It’s one of the most iconic viewpoints in Ucluelet.
❤️Eco-Conscious Area
Nearby, the Ucluelet Aquarium is Canada’s first catch-and-release aquarium. Marine animals are displayed temporarily and returned to the ocean — a model for sustainable education.
💙Whale Watching Haven
From spring through summer, Little Beach and surrounding areas are a hotspot for gray whale migrations. You can sometimes spot them right from the shore. taken in Ucluelet, British Columbia by @natural_pmu_bc

Not hiking. Not camping. Home.
So I looked up the data. And it tells a wild story.
BC has 120,000–150,000 black bears.
Alberta has ~40,000.
We have 3–4x more. 🐾
Human-bear conflicts in BC — bears killed by conservation officers:
📈 2021 — ~500
📈 2022 — ~500
📈 2023 — 603 ← decade high. 21,000 conflict calls.
📉 2024 — 303 ← dropped 50%. Nobody knows exactly why.
📉 2025 — 211 ← 15-year record low. A 65% drop from 2023.
The 15-year average is 560 bears killed per year.
What changed?
More public awareness around securing garbage and attractants. In 2024, only 1.7% of all bear conflict calls actually ended with a bear being killed.
Years with poor berry crops and drought push bears into neighbourhoods. Good food years — they stay in the forest.
Maple Ridge sits right where forest meets suburb.
The bears aren’t lost. They’re adapting. And so are we — slowly.
Secure your compost. Pick your fruit.
