Glacier Lake within the Eagle Cap Wilderness. A dead tree was positioned just right to get down and capture the lake scene framed by the wood grain. This image required focus stacking to get it right and bring clarity to the whole image. I loved how the clouds looked like they were spinning in sync with the circle given by the tree. The textures of the wood always gets me but I enjoyed the juxtaposition between this texture and the textures and colors of the Glacier Lake scene. Notice the islands on the clear glacial waters. It’s a special place for sure. 💚😍🌲

My hope is that this year you will multiply hope, humanity and healing. Both within your own soul but to those all around you. We need a sense of urgency to seek and save. The quiet moments in grand places bring the sweetest contradictions. Awesome scenes are often quiet. At sunset when the wind begins to still there is a deep meaningful silence that brings life to the soul. We were made for peace and when we enter the “wild” we are actually entering civility. This world is upside down, they make bad good and lies truth. In God’s Creation and in His Word we soak in Truth, we are exposed to pure reality. Do not be surprised if this perishing world does not like you, for those connected to the noise hate what peace exposes within them. Keep on the narrow Way. Look to the horizon, our redemption is nearer than we first believed ❤️⛰️🙏🏼

I returned to the Cirque of the Towers after several years and at a different season, both literally and figuratively in my own life.

My faith conditioning has strengthened and my physical conditioning (especially at elevation) is not what it once was. Both times this 24 mile hike was done as a day hike. Sooo much to reflect on and in future posts I’ll dig into some details.

This loop hike brings you through several different scenes and anyone who hikes far knows that there are times when you’re just getting through a tough section. Your mind, body and heart are going through it. Then, when you summit or when you are struck by the beauty of the moment everything changes. You are infilled with an energy that removes the pain and even pain that seemed so ever-present fades into obscurity.

This is how a faith walk in a darkened world can feel like. We can have these seasons where all you seem to feel is pain, and you may even be tempted to think thoughts you ought not to. But then the moment of glory appears and incinerates the woe and joy and wonder flood in.

For those of you in struggle, keep moving, one step at a time. We are being trained in this walk of faith. Faith hurts because we are put into situations to test it and make it pure through the fire of trials. My favorite book in the Word starts by saying that we who employ faith should find JOY when we are met by trials because it is those trials that strengthen us and make us complete - entering a state of unshakable contentment. This is an act of God activated by our faith. We must know that each trial will make our legs stronger, our lungs more sure, and our joy secure in the hope of eternity. Like hiking, faith is all about practicing it and perfecting it. So take heart, He has overcome this world.

Acatenango Volcano Overnight Hike. There is pain that leads to profit and pain the leads to loss. This was an intense hike that was full of trials but moments that confirmed that the pain was worth it. There were the four distinct and beautiful ecosystems along the hike, farmland, jungle, alpine and volcanic places. We had a group of mountain dogs that followed and sometimes lead the way. While many challenges were encountered each minute of the hike, being together with others on the same mission was comforting and kept me pushing on.

One of the thoughts that came to mind was how we choose which pain that we endure. To be sure must all experience pain. But there is pain that leads to growth and strength.

As you look at this world you may see a great many are choosing pains that lead to decline. Spiritual, emotional, sociatal, mental decline is on the rise. One way to look at why is that people are avoiding the pain that leads to joy, love and strength and choosing counterfeits.

Don’t loosen your grip on hope, fight for it. Elijah, one of the mightiest to walk the earth, who in a depressed moment thought he was the only one left that pursued the right path was told by God basically hold on a moment I have 7000 others who have not submitted to this evil empire. Realize today that you are not alone if you have eyes to see and ears to hear. Focus on the horizon and beyond the dark noise. Focus on the light and walk up that mountain, you will find that others are on the good struggle too. You are loved, and only love awakens love. Receive it and distribute it freely and see how life will change and your journey is marked with contentment.

A short and hot hike to a spring fed oasis in central Texas. Gorman Falls brings a cool mossy vibe to a desert like location. As always a couple hours in nature sooths the soul and calms the mind. We all need more of that and a starker contrast is observed when compared to what the global spiral of darkness is trying to vortex us into. Family is a blessing. Having people who stick together through thick and thin, who choose to love is something we need in this life.
