Not until recently i got a chance to sit back and look back at these wonderfully created works- still evolving in voice and strength . “Taala Tamate” choreographed by Akhilesh Dayanand @beru.space looks deep into our nature- as human beings. It talks loudly about resilience, resistance, gender and community. I can only remember the wonderful energy we shared interactively with a very invested audience.
It only reminded me as to how we all go through similar experiences differently. This piece will always have a strong place in my heart. It made me look at the world differently. Hoping for much more wonderful experiences and works. Also hoping for a world thats a better place 🙏✨
Performed recently at @kochibiennale

Thank you @udhayakumarphotography for the wonderful video. You are a blessing.

How do we continue to move, create, and care for each other in a world shaped by climate anxiety?
How can we be more accountable as artists?

In this episode of Talking Dance, Sonia Soney( Movement artist and Behavioural psychologist)and Niranjana Sajan(Dance Movement psychotherapist) come together to reflect on ideas of resilience in dancing bodies and the spaces we inhabit and create. We invite conversations on climate anxiety, its impact on our bodies and artistic practices, and ask an important question: How can we, as artists, become more accountable and hold space with greater care, compassion, and responsibility?

How can we as artists be more responsible in matters of climate change and its effects on dancing bodies and spaces through our works and shared practices?

If you’re a dancer, movement practitioner, educator, choreographer, or simply curious about the intersections of art, ecology, and community, we’d love for you to listen and share your thoughts.

🎧 Tune in and join the conversation.

No one really prepares you for what comes after your professional training period in dance. From intense sessions to suddenly days that you need to figure out how to push through. A lonely road. Your body confused . A wandering mind. To a point where the question one more “why do you love dance’’ annoys you. ‘Show us a dance’ at a family function annoys you because now its your job and things have changed. You want to rest. You forget why you started. But as you slow down( months/ years) - your heart remembers. Your body wants to do a little dance again. Because it made you the most happy as a child . Dance was my friend through tough times. It was warmth , it was one crazy friend. And deep down i want to go back being crazy friends with dance again. Not for the validation, not for the prize but just for the pure love of dance. So here is me slowly one step at a time reconnecting with myself and movement. And if you are a dancer/ movement artist going through a similar experience. Know that you are not alone and that you will figure out too. Its okay to slow down. Its okay to take breaks that will only nourish you. Grateful for the support i have that keeps me in perspective from wonderful people around me.
RECONNECTING.

🧿✨♥️📹🌊These moments will stay with me forever as a dancer. As a dancer, choreographer and educator i have been missing stage so much lately. The lights, the stage below our feet , the whole process of getting ready, spending time together with other artists, talking about art, dwelling in art and moving in magic.
This was the first time i ever danced on shores of sea in Chennai. The sunrise behind me was surreal. The soft sand , the waves brushing against my feet, being in the moment with nature and the beautiful sky. Could not ask for more. How did i get so lucky @udhayakumarphotography @my_story_till_now
Thank you for reminding why i do what i do 💌
