Meet Judy 🍀

I met Judy over ten years ago working at the same restaurant while we were in college down in Wilmington. We fell in love, but the timing just wasn’t right, and we both went on separate journeys.

We continued to stay in touch over the years….texting here and there, talking on the phone every once in a while. But it just wasn’t the same. And as I sat and saw her from afar, I would shake my head and sigh to myself thinking, damn… what if.

I’ve made some significant changes to my life this year, we’ll get into that another day.
While I made those changes I continued to think…what if?

When we decided to visit in the spring, it had been a fat 10 years since seeing each other so we didn’t really know what to expect.
Needless to say when it was time for her to go, I didn’t want her to go.

So she came back from Colorado, her and her dog Chance, to Hatteras Island to be here with me…to help Toucana grow, to push me to shoot for one more goal, one more try, and help US continue our journey that we started so long ago.

Thai Pork Plate!

We kinda miss eating at Ruen Pair and Sapp Coffee Shop in L.A.
Both awesome Thai Restaurants.

Here’s our attempt to bring those flavors to you!

Today and the rest of this week we’ll be serving this dish on special.
Stir fried Pork Belly with red peppers, Thai basil, fish sauce dressing, in a bed of rice with a fried sunny egg.

Hey! Étouffée!

Were trying something a little different these days, we get it…y’all love the She Crab Bisque (it’ll be back very soon)

This is our take on the southern Louisiana staple, Étouffée!

Made from a few simple ingredients like scallions, mirin, poblano and guajillo peppers, but of course coconut milk!
This étouffée is dairy and gluten free.

Not listed is chorizo sausage which gives it its deep flavor but also highlights our southern American style of cuisine. Don’t forget the Japanese mirin, we use allot of ingredients from Asia here too!

Packed full of flavor, not spicy, it’ll keep ya warm!

It’s Taco Tuesday 🌮 here at Toucana!

With all this Bluefin Tuna that’s been around lately, we decided to use it for our Taco Tuesday lunch special!

We’ve also been getting crazy with burritos recently so here ya go, the Bluefin Tuna Poke Burrito!

Using just a few simple ingredients, we made sure not to overpower the delicious flavor of the Bluefin Tuna.

Dunk in Sriracha Mayo, makes it taste like a sushi roll…but it’s a burrito.

This week’s Taco Tuesday special is what it looks like… the Toucana Taco Salad!

This one is made with Gringo Taco Beef but feel free to choose from our other protien options which include, grilled shrimp, tempura mahi, chorizo, or an egg!

Toppings galore, plated in a fried flour tortilla bowl.

We serve the guacamole and crema on the side to encourage you to break the bowl apart then “chip” and “dip”! 🏆

New Menu Alert!🚨

As our little place called Toucana grows, so does the menu!

We’re happy to announce our spring menu!
We didn’t remove anything, just added a few things.
Cross utilizing some of the mise en place we already have here, we’re able to add more options keeping conscious of the space we work in.

Chips and Salsa Roja, sides of Mexican Street Corn but of course the 2025 fan favorite, The Ollie Dog.

A tribute to our dear friend Coach Ollie Jarvis.
Your hot dog has taken off so we’ve decided to add it to the menu!
People love the Cincinnati Chili so much they are ordering sides of it, adding it to fries, and one customer asked to add it to a smash burger???

Before our eyes, the Chili Bacon Cheeseburger is born.
