BABY! From SIX SECONDS to nearly 15 YEARS of impact. THAT is a journey.

During my interview with TS Madison at Unleashed LGBTQ+ in Dallas during Pride in Dallas Weekend, I asked her what’s been going on in her world, and she gave me an update on her journey, what she’s been working on and some of the projects she has coming up.

And this part right here stuck with me.

What started with a viral moment became a career, a platform and a voice that has helped create visibility for so many different hues of the LGBTQ+ community.

Everybody quick to scream “agenda” when it comes to LGBTQ+ people…

…but silent about the patterns actually hurting our community every day.

Multiple households struggling.
Limited paths being pushed to our youth.
Cycles that keep repeating.

At some point we gotta stop pointing fingers outward and start having real conversations inward.

This isn’t hate—it’s accountability.
This is about growth.
This is about protecting the future.

Ballroom houses once played a pivotal role in the survival of LGBTQ+ and ballroom community members. For decades, your ballroom family could be your chosen family, your support system, and sometimes the people you depended on when you didn’t have anywhere else to turn. (National Park Service)

As acceptance from friends, family, and society grew for many LGBTQ+ people, things changed, and the role ballroom family once played in a person’s everyday survival wasn’t always the same.

But with today’s issues, political climate, and the challenges facing LGBTQ+ people, are we going back to a point where our ballroom families are going to play a bigger part in our survival again?

Do houses need to become more than who we walk with and battle with?

Do we need ballroom family the way generations before us needed ballroom family?

I attended the Blue Bonnet Entertainer of the Year prelim held in Dallas, Texas at S4’s The Rose Room, and baby, it was an evening full of glam, elegance, and legendary and iconic pageant queens and kings. 👑✨
