Nicole Bernard | Dallas maker capturing the magic behind her art & favorite things. Clay. Design. Music. Food for thought
A good life is worth making
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Introducing H O M E | I’ve been MIA for a little minute while I work on my biggest project yet: purchasing and moving into my first home. There’s so much to say about this process that I can’t imagine trying to sum it up in one post, so I’m not going to try. Instead, I’ll be capturing the journey on a new platform: @nbmakeshome.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For my OGs, NB Makes is already believes a good life is worth making, so I’m going to be chipping away at that myself in my new space. I’m excited to have more room to set up a S T U D I O, decorate, renovate, garden 🌱 - all the things.

I’d be honored if you follow along. 💫 by @nb.makes

Hey there! Nicole Bernard from @nb.makes here! ✨ Dallas is where I stay and colored clay is my thing. I throw, but even when I do, my clay practice is usually a hybrid of a variety of techniques, including making clay tapestries - or slabs of patterned, tinted clay inspired by my travels, architecture and of course, my love for the outdoors and and my indoor plant babies🪴 it’s only right that many of my pieces are wearable art that makes it back out into the world where I hope they’re a source of inspiration to others too 💫

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If I haven’t met you yet - I can’t wait to say hello to ya in Cincinnati! I’ll be sharing more about my practice and work all weekend long and taking yall into the studio with me tomorrow! Cheers!

Introducing: Beads of Hope: An Anthology, Volume 1.26 ✨
On June 20, more than 85 creators gathered to honor Juneteenth, reclaim a complicated history, and create something rooted in hope, freedom, and intention. This is just a sample: the book holds 59 of their stories, their pieces, and their Beads of Hope.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, created, shared, supported, and believed in this project. 💛 Special thanks to @timcoreyshoots for the beautiful photography, @dallasculture, and everyone who donated to make this book possible: this is your story too.

The digital anthology is FREE to download. Link in my bio 💫 by @nb.makes

💫 With hope & gratitude | Beads of Hope 2026 was everything I hoped and imagined it would be and more. Throughout the day we welcomed about 90 people to @makespace.dallas to create and build community. We captured more than 50 portraits & intentions for pieces which we’ll turn into an e-book later this summer. Our featured makers @granola.with.love and @leafberri did their thing and make the experience so much richer!

In the moment sometimes, it’s hard to see or appreciate what’s being created but as I look back at these photos by @timcoreyshoots, I have so much pride in both what each person created and the community we built in this sacred space - with your support. Our 30 fundraising donors TRULY made this moment possible.

Thank you to everyone who came, who donated and who is now a part of the NB Makes family. Appreciate you all, and until next year!

MEET THE MAKERS 🖤 | One of the things we’re most excited with this year’s event is sharing space with fellow Black-owned creative businesses whose work is rooted in craft, storytelling and community. We’re excited to feature demos, samples and work from:

🫖 @leafberri will be sharing thoughtfully crafted teas from the heart of Kenya’s highlands that invite us to slow down and connect.

🥣 @granola.with.love will share their granolas handmade with intention and heart—because nourishment is another form of community care.

📸 @timcoreyshoots will be capturing images of your jewelry pieces and moments of reflection throughout the event, helping preserve the stories and intentions created that day.

These makers represent the creativity, entrepreneurship, and artistry that is indicative of the Black makers community. I’m proud to share this space with them!

Come out to Beads of Hope to experience their work, create jewelry, and support local Black makers this Saturday at @makespace.dallas Space.

ABOUT BEADS OF HOPE - FREE JEWELRY WORKSHOP | A few years ago, I learned something that changed the way I think about the jewelry - as a designer and as a wearer.

Did you know that during the transatlantic slave trade, trade beads were used as currency? That means jewelry was used to barter for human lives. As a ceramic and jewelry artist, that knowledge sat heavily with me. How could something so beautiful be connected to something so devastating?

We can’t change the past, but we can choose what stories we carry forward. The more I reflected on it, the more I realized that creating jewelry today can also be an act of remembrance, reclamation, resilience, and joy.

💫 That’s why I created Beads of Hope 💫

On June 20, we’ll gather to learn about this history, create jewelry inspired by the African Diaspora, and spend time in community in honor of Juneteenth. Together, we’ll transform beads from symbols connected to exploitation into symbols of creativity, freedom, hope, and connection.

This will is actually our third workshop provided complete free to the public and promises to be our best one yet.

Will you join us?

S U P P O R T B E A D S of H O P E | I’m excited for the opportunity to expand my Beads of Hope community-based jewelry-making experience on June 20 in honor of Juneteenth. Like in the past, my goal is to keep this event free and focused on educating participants on the impact of trade beads in Black history and celebrate hope and freedom.

I’m so honored to have support from some great partners this year, but to make it happen I need another partner: you!

This event will still require significant financial investment from my art practice to make possible. In order to be able to provide this opportunity to the community free of charge, we are seeking support and donations from our community near and far.

Our goal is to raise $1,000. Any donation you’d consider providing would allow for us to provide refreshments for participants, support materials for the featured artists, expand our advertising efforts, and most importantly, keep the event free for everyone who attends.

As a thank you, we will gift one cup to one randomly selected supporter providing a donation of any quantity by June 5.

Please consider donating, attending and sharing with people who would be interested in attending! Link in the bio or visit NBMAKES.COM/BEADSOFHOPE 💫 by @nb.makes
