The Tech BREAKTHROUGHS that defined 2025!!!

It’s been a privilege and honor to cover all of these this year and I’m so excited for even more in 2026!

Tech optimism 🚀

From killing cancer with ice to catching rockets mid-air — these are the tech breakthroughs that defined 2025

1. In 2025, SpaceX launched rockets at a record pace — roughly one every two days — but their real breakthrough was catching a 200-foot booster mid-air, making rockets truly reusable and unlocking far more frequent trips to space.

2. In Australia, doctors had a breakthrough in killing cancer by freezing tumors guided by live MRIs, destroying only the disease cells while they watch it happen live. Back in the U.S. and cities, self-driving cars gave millions of fully driverless rides, ushering in a new frontier of driverless vehicles.

3. In energy, scientists built solar panels that work in the dark, harvesting Earth’s heat instead of sunlight.

4. And in health, GLP-1 drugs reached tens of millions of people, rewiring hunger, metabolism, and disease risk.

Last week, I got to go behind the scenes with Cisco and see the technology powering one of the biggest tennis tournaments in the world. It was ELECTRIC!

For every NBT episode, I relentlessly stress-test the topic: Is this an incredible novel technology helping unlock a better future?

So the wildly complex logistics behind one of the world’s biggest tennis tournaments immediately lit up my brain.

From Hawk-Eye making precise line calls to cameras analyzing crowd flow and identifying where wait times can be shortened, there is an insane amount of technology working behind the scenes to make the tournament an amazing experience for fans.
