Congratulations to Kelsey Grapperhaus, Ashley Parker & Pam Walker, North Carolina graduates of the latest @farmbureau Women’s Communications Boot Camp! #ncfarmbureau by @ncfarmbureau

If the last trip to D.C. lit a fire under me, this one taught me how to use my voice.🔥

I just wrapped up an incredible few days at the @farmbureau Women’s Communications Boot Camp in Washington, D.C., and to say I’m grateful for this opportunity would be an understatement.

Over the last 4 days, we were pushed outside our comfort zones through public speaking, message development, television/radio interviews, media training, “tackling tough topics”, congressional visits, and presentations.

My biggest takeaway? Agriculture needs people who are willing to tell its story or someone else outside of agriculture is going to do it for us. ‼️

Whether it’s across a table from a farmer, in front of a camera, behind a microphone, or sitting in a congressional office, I want to be someone who can communicate the challenges our American farmers are facing in a way that makes people truly care and appreciate our way of life— and if we don’t speak up now, one day might be too late. I came to D.C. wanting to become a better communicator. I’m leaving more confident in my voice and ready to use it. 🇺🇸

SO thankful for both @ncfarmbureau and my local Beaufort County NC board… not just for this opportunity, but for the constant encouragement to continue to fight for American farmers and ranchers — and then giving me the tools to go do it.

Made the trip down to Georgia to celebrate a pretty special man as the 2026 North Carolina Farmer of the Year! 🌾

What a special week celebrating John and Tina, all they’ve accomplished, and the countless years of hard work, dedication, and love they’ve poured into agriculture. Watching John receive his green jacket was a moment we’ll never forget, and one that was so well deserved.

But beyond the awards and accomplishments, what makes us most proud, is the people they are. We couldn’t have asked for better family, grandparents, or role models for our children to look up to.

The legacy they’re building goes far beyond the fields they farm, and we’re so blessed to be a small part of it.

We are so incredibly proud of you, Papa! 🤎

Fun fact: the maze @gallowayfarmnc in Columbus County is not made out of corn! Turns out, Farmer Alma uses something else and for a very good reason! #ncfarmbureau #maze #crazemaze by @ncfarmbureau

Ingredients:
-12 slices bacon, chopped into ½-inch pieces
-2 celery ribs, chopped
-1 large carrot, chopped
-1 medium yellow onion, chopped
-1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-¾ pounds red potatoes, peeled and diced
-2 medium Granny Smith apples (about ¾ pounds total), peeled and diced
-30 ounces (2 cans) pumpkin puree
-2 cups unsalted chicken stock
-1 ½ teaspoons salt
-1 teaspoon black pepper
-Sour cream, for topping (optional)
-1 Granny Smith apple, chopped into matchsticks, for topping (optional)

Instructions:
-In a heavy 6-quart pot over medium heat, cook the bacon until crisp, about 10 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer bacon to a paper towel-lined plate, reserving the fat in the pot.
-Reduce heat to low and add the celery, carrot and onion to the pot. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until veggies are softened but not browned, about 10 minutes. Add the cinnamon and cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, for about 1 minute.
-Add the potato, apple, pumpkin, chicken stock, 2 cups water, salt and pepper. Simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the veggies are very tender, about 20 minutes.
-Using an immersion blender, puree the soup until completely smooth and creamy. If soup is too thick, add extra water and blend again.
-Serve warm, topped with chopped bacon, sour cream and apple matchsticks, if desired. by @ncfarmbureau
