⬆️ We’re moving up! NC State Materials Science and Engineering continues to advance in the 2027 U.S. News & World Report undergraduate rankings, moving up two spots from last year. This continued progress reflects the strength of our undergraduate program and the dedication of our faculty, staff and students, from outstanding teaching and advising to student engagement and continued program development. We’re proud of the momentum across NC State MSE and excited to keep building on it. Think and Do. by @ncstatemse
🎉 There’s a new doctor in the house! 🥂 NC State MSE congratulates Dr. Pranay Bhasker Kalakonda on successfully defending his Ph.D. last week! Give him a high-five salute the next time you see him! 📘 Thesis Title: “Domain Matching Epitaxy of Diamond Thin Films” Advised by Professors Jagdish Narayan and Roger Narayan Let’s come together to celebrate Pranay’s significant academic milestone! 👏 #PhDDefense #PhDone #AcademicMilestone by @ncstatemse
You're Hired! We are still reeling, so we decided to make a reel about the first-ever, crazy successful Material Advantage Career Fair last month on Sept.16. Over 160 NC State students participated! 🤯 Led by @material.advantage.ncsu, with sponsorship from the NC State student chapter of the @electrochemsociety and partnership with @ncsuaiche, the event welcomed students representing 16 majors and 18 minors, from early undergraduate cohorts through master's and Ph.D. programs. More than 80% of attendees were @ncstatemse or @ncstatecbe related majors. Thank you to the student leaders, professional partners and everyone who helped make the event a success. We are proud of the collaboration, persistence and planning that brought this meaningful opportunity to the MSE community. Material Advantage can't wait to do it all again next year! Stay tuned for the date drop! What was your favorite part of the Career Fair? Tell us in the comments below or tag a friend who attended! by @ncstatemse
🎉 There’s a new doctor in the house! 🥂 NC State MSE congratulates Dr. Michael Lastovich on successfully defending his Ph.D. dissertation, “The High Temperature Response of a Dual Phase High Entropy Alloy,” under the guidance of Professor Bharat Gwalani. 🔬 Michael’s research explores how multiphase high-entropy alloys perform at elevated temperatures, with potential for combining strength and ductility. 🖼️ You can see this research up close! The featured micrograph is displayed as a large-scale print in the EB1 main office suite lobby triptych between Hillary and Juliette’s offices, part of the 2024 MSE Art Research Competition. 📣 His advice for future Ph.D. students? “Make space between the obligations to be unapologetically curious.” Join us in celebrating this exciting academic milestone! 👏 #PhDDefense #PhDone #AcademicMilestone by @ncstatemse
Solve this puzzle, then come see the site in person at Open House this Saturday! by @ncstatemse
🎉 There’s a new doctor in the house! 🥂 NC State MSE congratulates Dr. Siba Sundar Sahoo on successfully defending his Ph.D. last week! Give him a high-five salute the next time you see him! 📘 Thesis Title: “Ultrafast Melting and Quenching Pathways for Metastable Phases of Novel Functional Materials” Advised by Professors Jagdish Narayan and Roger Narayan Let’s come together to celebrate Siba’s significant academic milestone! 👏 #PhDDefense #PhDone #AcademicMilestone by @ncstatemse
