Please join us in welcoming Dr. Sheryl Long as the new leader of the North Carolina Teaching Fellows program!

A former Teaching Fellow herself, Dr. Long brings 30 years of experience in education, including service as a middle school teacher, professor and dean of Meredith College’s School of Education, Health and Human Sciences.

The North Carolina Teaching Fellows program helps prepare talented future teachers to serve in North Carolina public schools by providing up to $10,000 a year in tuition assistance for qualified students who commit to teaching in high-need areas. This year, more than 1,200 Fellows participated at 10 colleges and universities across the state.

Dr. Long’s experience as a Teaching Fellow, educator and former dean of a Teaching Fellows institution gives her a deep understanding of the program’s mission and the students it serves.

Congratulations, Dr. Long. We look forward to seeing the program continue to grow under your leadership. 👏

A new building. A renewed promise to North Carolina’s classrooms. 💙

Founded almost 160 years ago with teacher education at the heart of its mission, @fayettevillestateuniversity has opened a new College of Education building – a nearly $70 million investment in the next generation of North Carolina teachers.

The new facility includes modern learning spaces for educator preparation programs, including the @ncteachingfellows program, which provides forgivable loans for students who commit to teaching in North Carolina public schools after graduation.

For one future teacher, that opportunity means preparing to serve in the place she already calls home: Cumberland County.

Across the state, UNC System universities like FSU are preparing students for meaningful careers and creating opportunities for them to put their talents to work in the communities that know and need them.

In the midst of commencement festivities, we celebrated our senior Teaching Fellows too! We are so proud of these exceptional scholars who have committed to years of teaching in high-need schools and subject areas.

They got to hear from Dean Butler, Associate Dean Tisha Greene, two of our New Teacher Support Coaches Courtnie and Lindsay, and two exceptional #EduNiner alumni in Emily Francis and Molly Todd.

We know they will take the many words of encouragement and the powerful stories of teacher impact they heard that night with them into their first year of teaching and beyond 🌟🎓

We had the best time celebrating our senior NC Teaching Fellows last night at the inaugural NCTF senior gala! Mrs. Brit planned and facilitated this event for all senior NCTFs across the state, and it turned out amazing. We know this group is off to do such great things and we’re so grateful they’ll start their teaching careers in NC public schools. Welcome to the legacy legends of NCTF!

App State was proud to host Campus Directors from our North Carolina Teaching Fellows partner institutions, along with members of the NCTF Commission. Together, we highlighted the program’s impact, collaborated on strengthening North Carolina’s educator pipeline, and celebrated the lasting legacy of Teaching Fellows across the state.

Through the North Carolina Teaching Fellows program, students can study at one of ten outstanding educator preparation programs in North Carolina (including ECU 🏴‍☠️) AND receive up to $5,000 per semester in forgivable loans to cover tuition, books, and fees.
