This week’s Firstie Friday post features MIDN 1/C Kaitlyn Dooley. Kaitlyn is from Doylestown, PA, and lived in Lyons Hall. She chose Notre Dame after attending an admitted students weekend, where she experienced and fell in love with the ND pride and the powerful campus community. She was greatly impacted by Notre Dame’s many rich traditions, such as singing the alma mater and visiting the Grotto. By the time the weekend was over, she had purchased a sweatshirt at the bookstore, which is her family’s way of committing to a college. Kaitlyn chose NROTC because she wants to be a part of something bigger than herself, and something that can challenge her to be the best possible version she can be.

Within the Battalion, Kaitlyn has served in multiple leadership roles. She has been a C2 Squad Leader, the C2 Platoon Commander, and she is currently serving as our Battalion Commanding Officer. Outside of the Battalion, Kaitlyn is an active member of the campus community, participating in the Cyber Security Club.
Kaitlyn’s most memorable experience in NROTC has been volunteering at the food bank every Friday. The tradition is a great way to give back to the South Bend community and spend time bonding with other Midshipmen.

Kaitlyn wants to thank her family and friends for the support they have given her throughout her time here at Notre Dame.

Kaitlyn will graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and will commission as an Ensign in the US Navy, serving as a Cyber Warfare Engineer. by @ndnrotc

This past Wednesday, the Battalion’s Marine Option midshipmen conducted their Land Navigation Exercise. Navigating through the woods, midshipmen tested their ability to read terrain, plot accurate bearings, and move confidently between points using only a map and compass. These fundamentals remain essential for future Marine officers and directly prepare them for the land navigation evaluation at Officer Candidate School. by @ndnrotc
