This summer, wildfires are raging, communities are being evacuated and people are losing their homes. Mark Carney's response? Cut the jobs that protect Canadians. The federal government cut 50 out of 100 jobs at the Government Operations Centre — jobs that coordinate the federal response to emergencies like major wildfires — all to pay for more fossil fuel projects. //Cet été, les feux de forêt font rage, des communautés sont évacuées et des gens perdent leurs maisons.La réponse de Mark Carney ? Le changement climatique n’est pas une menace lointaine. Il est là. Il est en train de se produire.Et il est causé par l’ignition de combustibles fossiles, une industrie dont le gouvernement libéral finance l’expansion à coups de milliards de dollars de fonds publics.C’est une crise que nous ne pouvons pas nous permettre d’ignorer.Au lieu de persister dans la voie des oléoducs qui dévastent le climat, nous pouvons investir dans l’économie de demain. Nous pouvons créer un million d’emplois bien rémunérés en bâtissant de grands projets qui protégeront les gens et les lieux que nous aimons. Nous pouvons réduire les factures d’énergie et faire du Canada une superpuissance des énergies renouvelables.Il est encore temps d’éviter les pires conséquences du changement climatique. It is happening.And it is caused by the burning of fossil fuels that the Liberal government is pouring billions of public money into expanding.This is the crisis we cannot afford to ignore.Instead of doubling down on climate-wrecking pipelines, we can invest in the economy of tomorrow. We can create a million good-paying jobs building big things that will protect the people and the places that we love. We can lower energy bills and transform Canada into a renewable energy superpower.There is still time to stave off the worst effects of climate change. In one of the wealthiest countries in the world, First Nations have had to go to court to fight for the right to safe drinking water. Instead of simply guaranteeing this basic right, the Liberals would rather shovel public money into fighting First Nations in court — while tabling new legislation that fails to uphold the human right to clean drinking water. This is shameful. It’s well past time to guarantee the human right to safe, clean drinking water for every community, once and for all. by @ndpcanada
