What an awesome day! Sometimes, as staff and faculty, we get so comfortable in this incredibly supportive community that it takes a day like this to really remind us just how special SoDAA is.

Y’all made it amazing. ❤️

And this is only the first photo dump—there’s plenty more to come! But for now, all we can say is thank you to our awesome student clubs, hardworking staff, and incredible students who helped make today what it was.

A special thank you as well to our University President for stopping by, spending some time with us, and getting to know our SoDAA community a little better. We loved having you here!

Welcome back, everybody! 🎉 And to all our first-year and transfer students...WELCOME! We’re so glad you’re here!
We know the first day has already come and gone (our darn social media manager was out of town 😅), but we weren’t about to miss an opportunity to drop in and roll out the red carpet!
This year is just getting started, and we have SO many amazing things planned to make 2026 one to remember. Keep an eye on our social media accounts for monthly community calendars, upcoming events, and plenty of ways to get involved, both through the School and our many incredible student groups!
This is only the beginning, y’all. We cannot wait to see the amazing designs, artwork, and ideas that are about to come out of our halls. 🦬🎨

What a weekend! Huge congratulations to all the students who received awards and scholarships — every bit of it was well deserved, so hold your heads high and celebrate your accomplishments.

A big thank you as well to our keynote speaker, Doug Hanson. The work you’ve put into the world is truly beautiful, and the culture you create is inspiring. Thank you for your time, your wisdom, and for sharing your perspective with all of us.

And of course, we have to give the Beaux Arts Committee a huge round of applause for throwing one heck of a party. The energy, the atmosphere, and seeing everyone dressed up and celebrating together breathed new life into an already amazing tradition.

For some, this was their very first Beaux Arts. For others, it was their final gala before heading out into the world to make cool things and help design a better future. No matter where you go next, remember you’ll always have a home here on our little downtown campus.

Did you know that students in the Apparel, Retail Merchandising, and Design (ARMD) program at NDSU have the opportunity to study for a year at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City?

Through this partnership, selected students can enroll in a one-year associate degree program at FIT, gaining valuable industry exposure in one of the world’s fashion capitals.

Maddie Kersten just completed the program in 2025.

Here is what Maddie had to say about her experience:

"The program has provided me with the incredible opportunity to spend a year studying fashion at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. In my time here, I have gotten the chance to visit fashion and beauty trade shows, learn from dozens of industry professionals, gain hands-on retail experience working at the Kendra Scott flagship store in SoHo, and experience everything there is to love in the big apple. I am so grateful for the opportunities that this partnership has led me to!"

🌟 VISITING ARTIST: KERRY RILEY 🌟

We are thrilled to welcome Kerry Riley, a Minneapolis‑based wardrobe stylist with over a decade of experience across commercials, catalogs, television, and film. Before stepping into the world of styling, Kerry built her craft as a clothing designer and pattern maker, giving her a rich understanding of garment construction and design that deeply informs her work today.
She is also the founder of The Needle & Black, a creative studio rooted in craftsmanship, storytelling, and intentional design.
