A batch of new episodes just dropped and will remain free for the week before they head into the subscriber-only archive. This drop includes a prolific batch of artists, designers, and photographers. We have another drop scheduled for next week with some more similarly amazing people.

@internetfamous Jerry Hsu speaks to me for 3.5 hours about his new book, How About Never, published by MACK, one of the more exciting books of recent times, and, admittedly, I am very fond of it and him. It was an honor to speak with @danielpshea Daniel Shea, whose incredible book, Distribution, also published by MACK, you should already own, as it is exemplary. Good year for MACK thus far.

I also spoke with @manuelnaranjomartell Manuel Naranjo Martell about his elegant new book Saca 1504, which has just dropped, published by @editorial_rm, an incredible story about Spain, Wild Horses, and community in the vein of Larry Towell. @yolandacuomodesign Yo Cuomo, eminent book designer, joins me to speak about Avedon, a bit of Scalo, and her notable career in photobook and magazine design. She's rad. Finally, in this drop, my buddy @marapalena Mara Palena returns to speak about her new work and book, Things That Happen Inside and Outside of Me, published by @artphilein_books Artphilein. We spoke about her expanded practice, trauma, EMDR, AI, and memory.

We are also running our annual subscription sale until the end of the month. You can support us and receive full access to over 500 long-form discussions concerning art, music, photography, film, and literature for 76 euros, which essentially helps us keep the lights on.

To all of our supporters, both monthly and annually, past, present, and future, a HUGE bout of gratitude for listening.

Seats are beginning to fill up for this special workshop with the incredible Swedish artist @martinahooglandivanow Martina Hoogland Ivanow, author of several compelling photobook titles, including Shadow Works, Living the Dream 1994–2024 Early Reading (2018). Circular Wait + Satellite + Second Nature (2015), Speedway (2013), and Far Too Close (2010). We are thrilled to work with her in Athens this Autumn.

Her work feels alluringly vague, caught in a dream state; lucid echoes of cinema pervade. At the same time, the deliberate play of shadow and color reveals a queasy relationship to reality, much like memory and dreams themselves. There is a slippage in the work that takes the viewer out of time and place and into the wide possibility of disseminating what they see, allowing it to conform to their worldview and project their inner subjectivity onto an image.

Early Bird 550 Euros + VAT Closes on September 6

Final Application Deadline: September 27

Please consider this very special workshop by @nearesttruth

@hannahmodigh will be leading a great workshop with us this autumn in Athens.

We are deeply looking forward to hearing her speak about her engaging process. Her books: Hillbilly Heroin, Honey, Hurricane Season, Delta, Archive of Longing, Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down, and Searching for Sivagami, amongst others, give an impression of her diligence and empathy toward her subject.

Please reach out if you are interested in joining us this autumn in Athens. We will be using the city as a backdrop to explore topics such as intimacy, extended documentary, and shaping intense photographic projects. More on the Nearest Truth Workshops site.

Looking forward to seeing you there. by @nearesttruth

Were having an annual sale on our yearly podcast subscription if you are interested. Instead of 96 euros, it is 76 euros. We greatly appreciate the support as we continue to bring interesting voices, new and established, to our listeners. This sale reflects our passing of podcast number 500 this year.

Thank you to all who have supported us along the way, and to those of you who have supported us from the beginning. Thank you x2. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience speaking to artists, curators, writers, photobook publishers, and assorted cultural creators. by @nearesttruth

I had the great pleasure of speaking with some amazing people over the past weeks. I am currently recording a new tranche of podcasts. Legendary photographer Gundula Schulze Eldowy, whose Berlin on a Dog's Night is considered a staple of East German photobooks. Matthew Connors @matthewconnors_ joins me to speak about political unrest and his work from Egypt to Hong Kong for his new @selfpublishbehappy @mack_publishing SPBH/MACK book, The Axe Will Survive the Master. @ruben.lundgren Ruben Lundren, formerly of WassinkLundgren, is now a senior curator of photography at The Nederlands Fotomuseum @nlfotomuseum . He spoke to me about his recent book, Flowers in the Mirror, published by @eriskayconnection The Eriskay Connection. And last, but not least, @larsduchateau Lars Duchateau and I catch up about his new book, also published by The Eriskay Connection, Limburg, a book or tale about the small Belgian town of the same name. Check it out!

A clutch of podcasts just dropped on @nearesttruth, where they will be available for a week or so before heading behind the archive wall.

In this tranche, you have some pretty great voices in photography.

@binet.helene and I discuss her work in relation to architecture.

@jackdavisonphoto, meet up for our second round to speak on his exceptional recent books, A is for Ant and Portraits, published by @helions_print

@ahndraya_parlato, and I go goth mode (I mean...) and speak about her new book Time to Kill, published by @mack_publishing.

I also spoke with Ole John Andal about his new darkly sublime book, Oslo Arkiv, published by Mack and @selfpublishbehappy

I spoke with @beateguetschow about her vital new book, Resistance Flood Fire Resistance, published by @spectorbooks.

I had the great luck to speak with @andreamullerschirmer about her work on Robby Müller's LA Polaroids for @stanleybarkerbooks.

I spoke with @anthonywgerace about his work in collage and photography, and lots of music!

And finally, but not least, @kovitch_ and I spoke about his writing and also the film he did on Penny Slinger.

It has been busy, but I hope there is something of interest for you.

As we have broken 500, we're offering our year-long subscription for 76 euros, instead of the normal 96 euros. We have not changed this price since 2020.

If you feel like supporting and saving some money, we will keep this open for a little while.

There are many hours of conversations logged. Forward March!!
