We’ve been keeping this one under wraps, and we’re pretty excited to finally share it. 🍂

Introducing the Naramata Gathers Harvest Celebration.

On Saturday, October 10th, join us in the heart of the village at Naramata Centre for a very special evening celebrating harvest in Naramata, with Chef Ned Bell and Chef Zachary Chan of Kin & Folk at the heart of it.

Think exceptional food served throughout the evening, local Naramata wines, live music, and plenty of time to wander, gather and connect. We’ll be making the most of the beautiful Naramata Centre setting, moving between indoors and out and celebrating one of our very favourite times of year.

The evening will also support the Summerland Sauce Project, spearheaded by Chef Ned Bell, with every guest taking home a jar of sauce as part of their ticket.

Great food. Local wine. Live music. Harvest. And a whole lot of Naramata.

NARAMATA GATHERS HARVEST CELEBRATION
Saturday, October 10th starting at 4pm
Naramata Centre - Naramata Village
Tickets are available on Eventbrite - linked in bio.

Come gather with us. 🍂

Good day Lana,

Thank you.
You have given so much over the past 17 years.
So much of yourself and your family to British Columbians, to fishers, farmers, markers, and to artisans.
I know for sure that so many of those families and associations feel the same way.
I've heard it from them constantly and consistently over the years.
Your passion, integrity and incredible energy is infectious, we all thank you and I feel so appreciative to have worked alongside you and your team.

Good for you for making what I know is a very difficult decision,
But clearly the right decision.

I love these photos from the last few of years of events and collaborations we worked on accross the Province building and promoting Buy BC.

From 1 proud Buy BC champion to another!
You will be missed, but more importantly you have left and made some huge impacts and those impacts will continue to be seen, heard and felt...
Ned

How cool last night to watch KC throw it way back to the 1990's when she was a @bclions_official cheerleader. 📣 🏈
It was so fun to watch the alumni from the last 4 decades dance up a storm.
She worked really hard to learn the routines and practiced practiced practiced a ton over the last few weeks.
It was and is great to see a new sparkle in her eyes and a bounce in her steps.
(and a few high kicks ;)
She will think this is cringe, but her Bell Boys think it's very very cool. #teamkate @bclionsalumni @bclionsuproar

Inspiring and encouraging to see the work of Nourish Anchor Cohort team members from BC health authorities profiled in a recent The Vancouver Sun article by Tiffany Crawford. Their work highlights the value of working with Nourish to take the Coolfood Pledge and assembling a cross-disciplinary team to take delicious climate action through food. Read the story in the 'In the News' section in our link in bio.

Congratulations to the Vancouver Coastal Health Planetary Health Menus team and collaborators on building the evidence base to show that plant-rich diets can be adapted to health care settings to meet patient preferences and nutritional requirements while achieving considerable environmental benefits. Nourish is proud to support and champion this research, led by Dr. Annie Lalande and recently published in The Lancet Planetary Health. Read the open access paper in the publications section of our link in bio.

The new Planetary Health menu had 39% lower GHG emissions and 51% less land use, improved the alignment with the EAT–Lancet Planetary Health Diet by 32%, reduced food waste in fish, soy, and pulse dishes, was associated with 84% of patients reporting moderate to high satisfaction, offered more culturally diverse dishes, better matched to the patients served
- contained more dietary fibre, sodium, and iron, with calcium and folate moving up into recommended range, and was nutritionally adequate, compared to the original menu.

The healthcare team worked with Chef Ned Bell to design these popular dishes for their planetary health menu, pictured here:

🐟 steelhead trout with a tomato miso dressing
🌰 creamy coconut chickpea curry with cauliflower and cashews
 🥣 Korean gochujang bowl
 🍝 turkey bolognese pasta

Of all the cool things I’ve done, few get the truly impressed reaction of my brief stint as a professional cheerleader.
“Wow! Really?!?”
Yes really.
And you’re in luck. I’m bringing it back for one night only. 😝
See you on the field at BC Place this Saturday with a whole bunch of awesome @bclionsuproar dancers and alumni.
I hear there is also a football game.
Shout out to @dancertrish for the personal invite to join this year. It’s been fun and a great reminder of how much I loved dancing.
Who knows what else might make a comeback.

Summerland Sauce Project 1.0 is offically turning the page as of today.
Something that didn't exist 3 weeks ago and was born out of urgency and a wild idea to help friends who also happen to be my farmers, our farmers.
Thousands of families, workers, animals and businesses were significantly and terrifyingly impacted by the Bald Range 🔥
Many homes and businesses lost,
So many were evacuated and their lives disrupted.
I spend my summers in Naramata, directly across the lake from Summerland, I was born here and spent my early years living at the foot of the Garnet Valley. I've spent the better part of 5 decades here every summer and recently watched and been impacted by climate change and the resulting forest fires. (Some human caused, some fueled by drought, low snow pack, little rain, lightning, and increased fuels in the forests)
Summer in the Okanagan is go time for these businesses, they count on the tourists, the summer residents, all of them fully staffed, Inventories full and ready to welcome guests)
Hotels, motels, seasonal rental companies, grocery stores, farmers markets, fruit stands, cafes, music venues, breweries, wine shops, restaurants, foreign workers harvesting orchards, managing vineyards.... the list of those disrupted is long.
Basically we count on 12-16 weeks of revenue to carry us thru to the end of the year and ahead into next season.
It's precarious, it's risky, we choose it,
But it's stressful.
After the fires exploded I felt helpless, helpless to really help, in a significant way.
In the days after I started cooking, for my farmers and for strangers.
Then my friend Thomas Tumbach from Localmotive farmers cooperative reached out and asked me to help those who@no longer had markets to sell at, restaurants to sell to, very little options for their harvests.
The Summer Sauce Project was born.
What began as 100 litres of Sauce made from the 500 lbs produce.
We just finished with over 1000 litres made and 5000 lbs of produce transformed.
Hundreds of volunteers hours worked, and generosity from my friends and suppliers...
1.0 = fresh - frozen
Stay tuned for:
2.0 = shelf stable.
