Im now an elected Councillor in the Borough of Merton!!! Pinch me please!!

All thanks to the residents of the St Helier ward for their support. The campaign was hard work no doubt, but it doesn’t stop there for me as this is where the work begins for the people of this great Borough.
Huge congratulations to all the elected Councillors and Merton Labour for retaining the Council… let’s get to work for the people of Merton!
Special thanks also to my fellow Councillors, organisers, staff and the many volunteers for their support throughout!!

Live a little, live a lot: at the Mayor of Merton charity ball dancing like no one’s watching, I’ll probably soon try to sing like no one’s listening… in the meantime, I’ll dance the night away like a “damsel in dis dress” 💃🏽

It was great chatting to fellow Veteran @jonnyinvictus from @veteransinpoliticspodcast sharing my story. Navigating life from civilian to military and back to civilian was quite tricky, but all my lived experiences in between transitions, were unmistakable preparation to the next phases of my life. I’m incredibly grateful to Jonny for reaching out and also including me into his vision of what service looks like.

Check out the links in my bio for the full podcast.

The first Morden Market I’d say was a success as locals are asking for the date of the next event. It was great to have a general understanding of what the community thinks about the market and especially knowing that about 90% of the people I spoke with were keen to see another one soon.
I also stepped out of my comfort zone and made an impromptu appearance by crashing Lawrence’s set from @metronomelife

It was a pleasure to have visited 10 Downing Street (UK Prime Minister’s residence) today. I also had the opportunity to tour the residence and learn about it’s immense history. To be standing in front this famous black door was a real treat!

It’s always a pleasure over the years to visit the brilliant @wimbledon tennis championships! Now even more so as a Councillor of the London Borough of Merton, home to the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

Attended my first full Council meeting tonight. I was absolutely delighted and honoured to have escorted my ward colleague @786shuile into the council chamber after being elected Mayor of Merton for 2026/27 mayoral year.
A milestone appointment being the first Muslim Mayor of Merton, Shuile is now the 62nd Mayor appointed in the Borough.
And so it has begun!!

It was an absolute pleasure meeting the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom @keirstarmer and the Deputy Prime Minister @david.lammy this morning at @afc_wimbledon

This was also the first time I heard my son engaging without my initial prompt or encouragement. My heart is full ☺️
