Seven courses and three desserts later at Daniel, and the abs are officially on vacation. Our host was kind enough to give us a private tour, and the entire team made my birthday celebration feel very special. This past year has been a blessing, and I’m incredibly grateful. 👏🏼🥂 by @nedshatzer

We’re all used to seeing me with my shirt off by now, I should hope. This set was shot by @RoySchweigerPhoto in New York. Not sure if you noticed, but the tattoos are fading. I started removing them about five months ago. I may start fresh, or just go blank. Any thoughts? by @nedshatzer

A proper staycation at Hotel Chelsea this weekend. A little champagne sans alcool avec ma petite amie on the terrace at sunset. Dinner at Café Chelsea is always perfect. Somehow butter, lemon juice, and haricots verts become the most amazing thing I have ever tasted, every single time. Breakfast en suite. The energy in this hotel is undeniable, Iggy Pop, Sid and Nancy, Patti Smith, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, and Madonna… New York history still surging through the walls. by @nedshatzer

Last night at The Frick Collection for the Spring Garden Party in Manhattan. It is a rare pleasure to celebrate in a place with that much history. Beautiful men and women dressed elegantly, a garden across from Central Park, and one of the most impressive buildings in New York. Naturally, when you’re dressed in a full seersucker suit, you make lots of friends, so we were in good company all night.I had a moment with Axel, the museum’s director, who made a very sharp observation. In a city where everyone builds to the curb and fights for every vertical foot, Frick displayed wealth on another level entirely. He took some of the most valuable real estate in the world and placed a beautiful garden across from Central Park.Apparently, Frick always had intentions of leaving the estate behind, knowing it would eventually become a museum. That makes the place even more impressive. We are very grateful to visit as often as we do. by @nedshatzer

The Hall of Mirrors at Versailles was my favorite part of the Royal Versailles Ball.A string quartet, chandeliers, painted Baroque ceilings, and gilded crown molding. A true white tie atmosphere with tailcoats, formal Highland dress, royal evening attire, and real elegance. We met wonderful new friends at dinner. Although I lived in Paris years ago, this was my first time at Versailles. To say the least, next level. by @nedshatzer

Photos by @Steven_LyonI’ve admired Steven’s work for years. He’s just really effing good at what he does. He’s also a complete camera geek. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to listen to him talk about the mirrors in his Pentax, some Hasselblad contraption, a Leica engine thruster, whatever. Who gives a hoot. Take the picture, you loony toon. But that obsession is exactly what makes the work what it is.He’s not standing around waiting for a stylist to fix the clothes. He gets in there. Pulls the shirt tighter. Adjusts the angle. Moves the light. Finds the position. Shoots it again. Then again. He’s inside the picture, using everything in his power to get the best possible image from that model, that location, those clothes, that moment. It’s a lost art form. That old school, film raised mentality.I’m not saying these are the greatest pictures ever taken on earth. I’m saying we made some great pictures together, and the man is in love with his work. That’s why I’ve been waiting years to sit in this chair and work with him.Thank you again, Steven. Can’t wait to see you back in New York, my friend. by @nedshatzer

Arrived in Paris just in time to check in, get dressed, and make our way to Le Café Marly at the Louvre. The staff was gracious enough to let us step near the glass pyramids for a few photos, a good reminder that sometimes, all you have to do is ask.Beautiful weather, an exceptional dinner, and the kind of evening that only Paris can deliver, shared with one of my dearest friends from the years I lived here in the early 2000s.A proper Paris entrance. by @nedshatzer

We were invited to a beautiful dinner at Laurent in Paris. The air cooled down perfectly for the garden, and the setting was exactly it.The funniest part was arriving in a beat up Bolt with half the car falling apart. Someone told us to try Bolt instead of Uber, so we did. Then we stepped out to two people from the restaurant waiting to greet us.There we were, welcomed like honored guests, emerging from a car that looked like it had barely survived the ride. Everyone saw it. Everyone understood it. Even the driver laughed. The maître d’, Tony, very well known in Paris from several other rooms, greeted us with a big smile. I met him over twenty years ago, and somehow it felt like no time had passed. The company was so good I was almost annoyed by how much they were entertaining me. I could hardly taste the amazing food. But when I had a moment to concentrate, the white asparagus, the lamb, everything was chef’s kiss.Laurent sits just à côté of the Champs Élysées, near the trees by the Grand Palais. Close enough to feel the center of Paris, but somehow completely removed from the chaos. Quiet, elegant, and almost hidden in plain sight. by @nedshatzer
