First official piece of 2024!!
Ok let's talk about this beauty! I rarely buy furniture because truthfully I have been gifted so many pieces, but an Eastlake washstand has been on my bucket list for a long time and the price was fair. ✅

Overall this piece was in solid shape but it's also a somewhat rustic antique, and I chose to let all the character flaws live on...exposed nailheads and small cracks. They all add to the charm that identify most used and loved antiques. This piece is not for someone looking for perfection; yet it's ready for someone who adores the slight imperfections that identify its age.

In my opinion there was no other choice of paint to use than milk paint; these washstands scream for it. Milk paint can sometimes deliver inconsistency and I love that, especially when a piece is most likely over 100 years old. Although I did use the bonding agent to limit chipping (there were a few stubborn spots) but the look is exactly what I envisioned, authentic and soft.

I combined a couple of paints to create a light grey wash for the top, allowing the grain to peek through. I finished with several coats of matte poly.

I sourced some original style Eastlake hardware on Etsy and I got to use a drop pull that I had been dying to use; I added a small backplate to it for a finished look and to cover the large area left from the original knob.

I lined the drawers with a William Morris print. I am in love with the soft orange combined with the grey tones ... swoon!
I added a magnetic latch for ease in shutting the bottom cabinet. The drawers move with complete ease, are lined and conditioned with a scented furniture salve.

I can see this used as an oversized nightstand, in a small foyer, or extra storage in a bathroom or kitchen.

The piece measures 30"W x 28.5"H x 14.5"D

When my sweet neighbor offered me this piece of furniture it was a hard NO! She put it to the side of the road where it sat for a day or two; on a walk one morning I gave it a careful inspection and noticing its solid wood construction I made a pivot decision and carried it across the street. Because I never can take the easy route, I initially wanted to strip and remove the heavy orange stain and leave it in its natural state. Well as many of you know the wood and finish fought me every step of the way. @melangepaints had just released their new colors and I thought this color Saltmarsh would be a perfect fit. The color was a tough one to photograph it really is a tannish brown with some olive overtones.

I cleaned the inside and left it to its natural state with a fresh finish of shellac. The inside shelf pulls out nicely when the doors are opened.

I let AI do its thing but I believe this cabinet could have so many uses as an oversized nightstand, in a woodland nursery, or add some casters (which I could do for you) and you'd have yourself a rolling utility kitchen cart!

This piece is manufactured by Irish Coast I have the original metal mark that I chose to keep off but it's manufactured in the old style of jigsaw construction using reclaimed or recycled wood. This piece is solid and heavy!

It measures 28 x 28 x 18 and it's currently available (my now old neighbor wants it back) 😝 but she lives too far away by @needleandbrushdecor

I've been dying to share this cabinet made by Irish Coast furniture it's solid wood through and through not a fake piece of wood here it's heavy, it's rustic, yet charming and oh so useful. I'll post more pics tomorrow for now I'm off to enjoy the beautiful New England weather we've been blessed with today. The color here is Saltmarsh by @melangepaints I absolutely love the deep neutral a lot of beige and brown tones with a touch of olive green. All good things finally come to an end! This Kent Coffey Perspecta commode pulled out all the stops on me mainly because I will repeat this mantra I am not a furniture refinisher; I'm a furniture painter.

Four years ago when this piece was gifted to me I knew little about it, and even contemplated painting it; I even tried painting one section. Each step of the way I reached out for help, thank God for @andreaflippingunique her help was invaluable; she's an MCM queen.

The best advice Andrea gave me was to consider using water based products by @werefinish because you can build on them versus an oil based stain, where you better know what you want, bc if you get it wrong it's not so easy to adjust.

Although this Kent Coffey isn't stamped it wasn't unusual for these pieces to have the furniture stores mark on them instead. If you're local you may remember Masons of Fall River, Massachusetts; they were known for their quality. It does have a sticker on the bottom of the drawer marked rosewood and walnut a sure sign it's from the Perspecta line, along with the 7904 COMMODE walnut and pecan stamp on the back. The marble on top is genuine from Italy and is stamped as well.

I took some liberty and painted the inside for a fresh clean look probably not in keeping with an authentic restoration, but I had to use my paint brush somewhere. I also lined the drawer with a William Morris print which I felt went nicely.

Unfortunately most of these were sold in sets and mine is solo. It measures at its widest point 25 1/4 x 25.5h 17d"
This is a truly exceptional and rare piece. I’m incredibly grateful that I took my time with this piece. As embarrassed as I was to keep saying, “It’s coming,” now that it’s finally here, I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

IT's DONE!!! And I'm not going to lie I put more time into this Kent Coffey Prespecta commode that I'll ever be able to recoup so I let Chat GPT invest her time instead of mine, and dang that wizard nailed the look and just in case you think she's lying swipe to see the next photograph so you know what I mean!

Time is short today so I'll be back tomorrow with a full post on the history of this little gem.

~AVAILABLE~ If you're looking for perfection, keep on scrolling.

This small drop leaf table was destined for the side of the road. A friend offered it to me, and although I rarely accept new furniture, I had a moment of weakness. I chose one of my favorite paints, mixing a couple of neutral milk paints I had on hand from @shackteau_interiors . I believe that when working on old, simple, rustic, handmade pieces, they truly deserve milk paint. However, IYKYK, milk paint can sometimes resist and chip and do its own thing and regardless of my efforts to prevent it, the paint continued to chip on the bottom of one leg. I surrendered. I added a little distressing around the legs to complement the chippiness.

One day, when I stepped back, I noticed one of the legs slightly sticking out a couple of inches. The table was already painted, and it would have required literally disassembling the table joints to fix it, which could have led to further problems. Ironically, that buck tooth leg does not affect the sturdiness or integrity of the table. Second surrender moment.

This table is versatile and would be an excellent petite dining table for someone in a small space. A chair fits comfortably under the drop leaves on both sides. It would also be suitable for a foyer or behind a sofa.

This table can fit into various decors, particularly nautical, cottage, or primitive homes.

It is made of solid wood, which is a rare find. The top is pine, and the legs are maple. A walnut stain and paint wash were was used on top and several coats of flat topcoat were added for protection.

This table taught me a valuable lesson because I suffer from a severe case of perfectionism. At times, I considered this table unworthy of posting because it was not perfect. It is my first piece this year, and I did not want something imperfect. However, I am learning that perfection is an insurmountable mountain to climb.

I believe this small table is charming, despite its buck leg and chippy foot. I am confident that one day, someone will find the "perfect" spot for it.

The last of my custom work for 2025! I promised my friend Deb I'd get these done before the holidays and she's been insanely patient with me! I've actually done 2 sets of coffee tables and end tables this year!! They have presented their challenges in the fact that the top woods aren't always the same, and I know some of you furniture folks have experienced this yourself.

We chose @fusionmineralpaint Oakham for the base of these tables and an Algonquin wash for the tops by @fusionmineralpaint also; the combo keeps the traditional look on point with these tables but certainly gives them a modern twist, especially over their old orange look!

~SOLD~ For years probably since I got married, I always wanted a blanket chest just never found one. I looked but it was just never the right time or right one!
Last year while at an estate sale I found this one and asked them how much? It was more than I was willing to pay and moved on...it was the final hours of the sale and while I was checking out with my other wares they asked if the bill I had in my hand would pay for the chest and the other things I had, AND he offered to bring it to my car! Well I said yes! Yes to the chest!
I tried! I tried really hard! But, it's just not working in my house. I'm sad but I know I'll find another one at another time. This has been painted in one of my very favorite colors Blue Moon by @shackteau_interiors. It's rustic; it's primitive; it's chippy, and has some distressing. It's sealed with hemp oil for a natural and matte sheen. It's perfectly imperfect. Full of room and storage, with a large drawer that works smoothly, I'm hoping it finds itself into someone's home who wants it as much as I did.
I was planning on using it to store my sewing machines but its uses could be endless and it could find its ways into so many decors with its simplicity!

Just a little this time nothing big! This dark forgotten shelf was left roadside and then in my storage for a long neglected stay! I thought the scallop trim and rustic back leaned towards a cottage/vintage vibe. So what's better than some green paint and glass knobs to make that a reality!

I'm not really sure what's meant for this shelf but the possibilities could be endless, especially in a kitchen or bathroom. It has 2 holes where I'm sure screws held it up on a wall. The drawers for their size are fairly deep and roomy. They work well. It has been painted with an enamel paint and sealed with wax for a soft patina glow.

It measures approx 22.5"w x 24"h x 6"d
