Back in 2018, we entered a contest held by @ponytailjournal , Lauren Yates of @wmenswear whose journal had long inspired us.

And the judges were all our heroes, the people who inspired us to make something meaningful.
One of them was Mr. Nigel Cabourn.

This contest felt like the only chance we’d ever get to put our work in front of them so our submission email, we wrote:
“Winning this contest is not my priority. Getting your attention, Mr. Cabourn, is.”

We won.

It has been an honour to have had our work seen and celebrated by you, Mr. Cabourn.
You were one of our biggest influences in vintage military, workwear. And above all, a man who gave his whole life to the craft.
all the same things that shaped everything we do at Needleworks Studios and Mata Clothier to this day.

When @sherylsheinafia 's guitar strap landed at our studio doorstep, it told a story, waiting to be woven.

The shoulder pad, revived with Boro fabric, a testament to timeless resilience.
On this canvas, a tribute unfolds – a #chainstitchembroidery pattern mirroring John Mayer's cherry blossom🌸 tattoo, an emblem of Sheryl's admiration.
Our final stitch etched the words "Safe Space" onto the strap, echoing Sheryl's independent music label, a home for creative freedom and authenticity.
