I began typing into my notes about how much bravery it requires to create art from something as vulnerable as grief. then I remembered this song, which I created during the 2022 uprisings in Iran, from that very feeling. I remembered how helpless I felt the day I sat at the piano, and how despite my sorrow, I made something. On many other days, I didn’t make anything at all, aside from a meal and a mess. And that’s okay too. Here’s a little piece of that story from me to you 🩶 by @neenaroe

I told myself in 2025 that I’d make it onto two soundtracks by the end of the year. I had no prospects at the time but I felt within me that it would happen. By the grace of God, it did ❤️ hearing your voice serve as a compass within a visual story is indescribable. For the story to be about the experience of your own people is even better. This was supposed to be a simple post about moving into my new apartment. Then it became a story about moving into nine new apartments. And then it became about my parents. And about iran. And then about all children of diaspora. I think that is what links us—how our story is never as simple as we think it is. And that reminds me of what our almost president once said: “You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?” by @neenaroe
