For some dogs, Halloween means three hours of doorbells and strangers in masks.

Swipe for how to get them through it without the drama.

If your pup can handle a costume crowd, our Howloween party is the night before. Consider it a dress rehearsal.

How does your dog handle the doorbell? 🐾

A lot of us were taught that socializing a puppy means meeting as many dogs and people as possible. It makes sense. It’s the advice most of us heard, and it comes from wanting them to love the world.

What tends to help more is focusing on how each new thing feels rather than how many things they meet. A puppy who gets through something new feeling safe usually walks away a little more confident. A puppy who gets through it feeling overwhelmed sometimes walks away a little more unsure, even if they seemed fine by the end.

Those early experiences can shape how a dog reads the world later, so it’s worth going gently. Keep sessions short and calm. Let them watch from a distance. Let them step away when they need to, and call it a day while they’re still comfortable.

If you’ve done it differently, that’s okay. Most pups are pretty forgiving, and it’s never too late to slow things down. 🐾❤️

If your dog makes twelve pit stops on one lap of the yard, they’re not broken. They’re catching up on the news.

Marking tends to be less about being “the boss” and more about scent communication. Excitement, stress, other dogs, and the environment can all turn the volume up. A new place full of fresh smells? Lots to respond to.

Is your dog a heavy marker or a one-and-done? 🐾

Every dog in the yard is spayed or neutered and current on Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella. No exceptions.

It’s the baseline that lets a whole yard of dogs share the same space, the same water bowls, and occasionally the same stick.
