It’s our Birthday! 🥳🎈🎂

On October 25, 1982, a group of local community members founded Neighbors Together with the hope of simply helping their community through an incredibly tough moment. They could have never imagined that 44 years later, the organization would still be here serving meals, and helping our low-income neighbors.

Our mission is to end hunger and poverty in some of the lowest income areas of Brooklyn. Every day, our work is shaped by the founding principles engrained into Neighbors Together 44 years ago -community, and supporting our members no matter what.

We’re grateful for the continued support of every member, volunteer, partner, and donor who has the same shared vision.

Happy 44th Birthday, Neighbors Together! ✨ by @neighborstogether

We love GOOD food here at Neighbors Together! Soup kitchens are often stereotyped, and many think that the food they serve isn’t healthy or poorly made. We strive to have delicious and nutritious food. 🙌

Some of our meals lately have included:

🍽️ garlic mashed potatoes, salisbury steak in gravy, and broccoli in olive oil

🍽️ baked chicken with sesame seeds and glazed teriyaki with white rice and broccoli

🍽️ mac with nacho cheese baked chicken and mixed vegetables

How about a BBQ? 🍗🔥 Our Community Action Program (CAP) team put together a gorgeous BBQ for our members in beautiful Prospect Park over the weekend.

Our member leaders are our neighbors and champions. Many have faced homelessness and discrimination, and have joined us at Neighbors Together to use their voices to participate in grassroots organizing to end the unjust policies that uphold hunger and poverty.

Some of these incredible humans have been organizing with us for 17 years! We are grateful for them, their leadership, and for this community. by @neighborstogether

The best team. Period. 🙌🏽

Today we sent a letter to @nycmayor along with 50+ advocates and service providers: fund @nycchr at $25M in FY2027.

New York City’s Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) is the agency responsible for investigating housing discrimination complaints and enforcing the city’s human rights laws.

For years, our team and member leaders have been calling for increased funding for CCHR.

This agency is the last line of defense for millions of New Yorkers and they must be protected. by @neighborstogether

This past weekend our Community Action Program team and member leaders took a field trip to the Museum of the City of New York!

The Museum of the City of New York explores the people, places, and ideas that shape New York’s iconic character.

Members learned about NYC’s history of activism and grassroots organizing, tenant rights, and housing advocacy.

The museum fosters civic pride through experiences that champion New York’s creativity, ambition, and resilience, and our group had a wonderful time learning in community with one another! by @neighborstogether

Members! We're having a listening session, and we'd like to hear from you. Details are below! by @neighborstogether

Volunteer Spotlight: Mid-Bedford Heights Lion’s Club

For years, we have welcomed the joyful Mid-Bedford Heights Lion’s Club as volunteers in our Community Cafe. We are always excited to have them join us to help serve meals, prepare pantry bags, and connect with our team. This week, the Lion’s Club also generously donated to our work, and we are grateful for outstanding partnerships like these that help us further our mission.

Volunteers like the Lion’s Club are the reason we’re able to continue to serve thousands of our low-income neighbors every week -ensuring our neighbors are met with dignity and care.
