홍범석은 군인이었고, 소방관이었으며, 구조대원이었고, 방송인이자 운동선수, 사업가 그리고 무엇보다 한 가정의 아버지였습니다.

그는 승리했습니다.
탈락하기도 했습니다.
부상을 입기도 했습니다.
그리고 다시 시작했습니다.

하지만 그의 이야기에서 제가 가장 마음에 남았던 부분은 메달이나 타이틀, 승리가 아니었습니다.

그가 돌아갈 집, 그리고 그곳에서 기다리고 있던 가족이었습니다.

홍범석 씨는 고등학교 시절의 첫사랑과 불과 22살의 나이에 결혼했고, 이후 두 아들의 아버지가 되었습니다. 하지만 부대의 임무와 특성상 한 달에 2~3주씩 가족과 떨어져 지내야 하는 시간도 있었습니다.

그의 모든 성취 뒤에는 다시는 돌아오지 않을 시간이 있었고,
그가 집으로 돌아올 때마다 그를 기다리는 가족이 있었습니다.

그래서 그의 여정이 더욱 특별하게 느껴집니다.

강함이란 단지 전장에서, 경기에서, 혹은 극한의 상황에서 얼마나 버틸 수 있는지를 의미하지 않습니다.

때로는 다시 가족에게 돌아가고,
그리고 다시 시작하는 것.

그것이 진짜 강함일지도 모릅니다.

Path to being the best version of yourself should be lonely. And the loneliness you feel is nothing to be sad about. IT IS A BENCHMARK and an indicator that you’re probably on the right path.

Everything in life has a true opportunity cost to it. Cutting people off, cutting things off, cutting habits off is uncomfortable. But everytime I’ve done it, something incredible has filled that gap.

You need to begin, and believe yourself with consistency, achievement will come to you. by @nelsonwonngg

Some journeys don’t begin with confidence.
They begin with someone believing in you when you’re not even sure you deserve it yet.

Thank you Wong Yi Hou for bringing me into the team, for opening a door that changed everything. I’ll always remember that first chance.

To Coach Felton Sealey, thank you for teaching me basketball, but more importantly, for teaching me how to carry myself in life. The lessons stay with me long after the whistle blows.

To Sir Richard Lim, thank you for the harsh words and strict discipline. At the time, they were hard to take but today, I understand. Every scolding shaped the way I think, reflect, and improve.

And Ms Chin, thank you for standing by me through the hardest period last year. The tough days, the endless documents, the emotional support I truly wouldn’t have made it through without you.

Growth is painful.
But I’m grateful for everyone who chose not to go easy on me, and instead chose to help me become better.

And to the special one when words weren’t needed.
Your presence mattered more than you know, and it gave me strength during times I didn’t show my struggles out loud.

Some support doesn’t come with instructions or applause it simply stays.
