For those of you joining me on today’s Moroccan adventure, if you have issues with heights or don’t like winding roads with no guard rails - be sure to close your eyes.
But if you do keep them closed you will miss all the panoramic views of this unique road as we cross over Tizi n’ Tichka, in the Atlas Moutians, the highest paved mountain pass in northern Africa. It is 7,415 feet above sea level.
As we follow the tour buses up this steep winding road, Kamal turns into a lot right begind a bus, with a restaurant. Whoa, Kamal, what???? Yep, lunch with a bunch of noisy tourists. But, no, he keeps going and there is another smaller building off to the left. This smaller restaurant is totally ignored by the tour buses, only locals here. They seat us out back on a terrace overlooking the just continuing views where I can see a Berber village in the distance totally carved into the rock. I quickly yank out my water brush and watercolors to create this sketch (well, landscape isn’t my strong suit).
They patiently wait for me to finish and then we are continuing our trip to tonight’s destination - sleeping under the stars in a desert camp. Yes camping ..... no, I mean glamping of the highest order. More next post. by @nelviamcgrath

Taking a digital tour of Morocco whilst keeping a travel journal. This is Kamal, the first of my Faces of Morocco. Kamal is my multilingual, historian, driver and tour guide for the entire Moroccan tour. He knows all the good places. Yes I will go great lengths to entertain and teach myself something new. by @nelviamcgrath

We haven’t traveled since covid, and I am missing it. While we can’t physically go for many reasons, I figured I would go digitally.
First trip is to probably somewhere I wouldn’t have wanted to go in person, Morocco. To be honest I think it would have overwhelmed me. But thinking it is a perfect trip and particularly interesting in the patterns of rugs, plates and tiles. Planning on documenting it all the way with a travel journal.
I haven’t done so great with themed journals, but thought this could be a perfect way to combine things I have learned about where I visit, culture, arts, etc. all put into a travel journal. Made an accordion book that I am experimenting with adding pages into in places and generally learning about book making.
Of course I am staying first class, flying first class, having a private driver/tour guide (and this by the way is really the safest and best way to do it if you don’t want to ride a bus or get killed on the roads, if there are roads) and generally going to have one heck of a good time!! by @nelviamcgrath

Another study, but scribble just seemed too harsh for her and children, so going to work on figuring that out. All that curly blonde hair was a challenge, so she went gray😅😂 by @nelviamcgrath
