Not just the female fashion designers shaa Let’s stop pretending that having good sewing skills automatically makes you a great fashion brand. Enugu has some incredibly talented designers. People who can construct beautiful garments, finish properly and deliver quality work. But where is the BRAND? Too many designers are producing clothes without building an identity. No strong visual language. No signature style. No compelling story. No memorable campaigns. No collection concepts. No originality. And before anyone gets angry; this is not an attack on tailors. It is a challenge to designers. If all you can do is reproduce what is already trending on Instagram, you are not really pushing fashion forward. You’re responding to the market. A designer should be able to create something that’ll make people Ask ‘This is KINGSLUXE right?’ and not “Who made this?” or “Where did you copy this from?” E no get brand wey celebrities don rock pass @kingsluxe_ for this East but that it’s not even a yardstick for real We also need to stop measuring success by how many celebrities or influencers wear your clothes but how many truly celebrates the pieces. Celebrity placement is marketing; it is not a brand identity. Build something people can recognize even when your name isn’t attached to it. Tell stories. Create worlds around your collections. Study your environment. Study your culture. Experiment. And most importantly, stop being afraid to be different. Because Enugu doesn’t have a talent problem. We have a BRANDING, STORYTELLING, ORIGINALITY and POSITIONING problem. And until we fix that, we’ll keep producing extremely talented designers whose brands remain invisible outside their immediate circles. I no go lie for you cc @nene_.jay by @nene_.jay
