Spinning Mariya Takeuchi’s Requests — a 1987 classic featuring hits she wrote for other artists. The highlight of this record is "Oh No, Oh Yes!", originally performed by Akina Nakamori on her 1986 album Crimson. The song captures the complex emotions of a woman caught in an unrequited love. Mariya’s version brings a cool, stylish, and subtle melancholy to the track. This album stands as absolute proof of her genius as one of Japan’s finest songwriters. #MariyaTakeuchi #Requests #CityPopClassics #Jpop #OhNoOhYes by @neo_newman
Most people assume Side A Track 1 of the Variety album is "Plastic Love"... but it’s actually “Mō Ichido” (もう一度)! This was the very first song Mariya Takeuchi wrote herself after taking a two-year hiatus from the music scene and marrying Tatsuro Yamashita. It marked a brand-new era where she took 100% creative control of her songwriting. Those smooth, background harmonies you hear? That’s Mariya harmonizing with her husband and musical partner, Tatsuro. ✨📻 "Mō Ichido" translates to "One More Time"—the perfect opening track for Side A on this iconic album, spinning here on the 2021 Reissue Edition (180g Heavyweight Vinyl) with its faithful reproduction of the legendary 1984 red OBI strip. Arranged flawlessly by Tatsuro Yamashita, its bright and feel-good J-Pop melody sets the mood perfectly before diving into the iconic City Pop grooves of "Plastic Love" in the very next track. 🖤 #Variety2021 #MariyaTakeuchi #VinylCollection #CityPopThailand #VinylAtHome by @neo_newman

The Hitachi Connection: The single "Ride on Time" skyrocketed in popularity after being featured in a famous Maxell cassette tape / Hitachi commercial, turning it into an instant summer anthem. Spinning In This Universe (1982) by Trix 🎶 Did you know this Argentine triplet trio, originally known as 'Las Trillizas de Oro', was huge in Japan and Europe back in the day? ⚡️ 'Let's Dance Tonight' is an absolute 80s Euro-Disco banger—groovy bassline, infectious energy, and impossible not to move to. A must-have for anyone who loves that classic 80s synth sound! 🕺✨" #LetsDanceTonight #Trix #InThisUniverse #LasTrillizasDeOro #VinylCollection by @neo_newman
I’d gotta hand it to this track as the most mellow deep cut on the Natural High (1978) album—that groovy, sticky bassline paired with the sweet mid-tempo funk of 'I Like What You Do' 🛸📀 A tight rhythm section, lush keyboard sounds, and 70s-style Motown horns make this a perfect masterpiece by Lionel Richie, Thomas McClary, and Walter Orange. #TheCommodores #NaturalHigh #MotownRecords #70sFunk #SoulVinyl by @neo_newman
