Hey Hey,

Last month I was invited to play live for an hour @rrfm.fm.

I'm so happy to have gotten this opportunity and I'm happy how the set turned out.

During my production process I always want to add more layers or extend the story of the track. This live set I did exactly this and tried to make it a big journey

All tracks produced by me and played with the TR8S, Minifreak, sh101, 303 and ableton.

Roll Review #73: Neo Festen @neofesten

This week’s #AaRollReview gives us a peek into the life of Neo Festen—an Amsterdam-based DJ, artist, and program curator who started making music when he was just 14 years old.

Having a father who used to constantly spin vinyl, Neo grew up surrounded by music, something he immediately picked up himself and turned into a passion of his own. ’I started out making hip-hop, just messing around,’ he says, ‘but now I play live with synths under the name ‘Neo’. That’s a really big step for me—it’s about presenting myself more as an artist, not just a DJ.’

In addition to his solo synth-performances, Neo also takes the stage as part of ‘Festen’—a DJ duo with his younger brother BiX. Now, at 21 years old, Neo has not only carved out his space in the Amsterdam music scene, but also completed a conservatory degree in electronic music, all while preparing to begin his audiovisual studies at WDKA next year.

While performing is central to who he is, Neo is equally active behind the scenes. His internship at Mo Manager paved the way for his current role as curator for Nachbar’s Thursday night program—an opportunity he embraces to give back to the community: ‘I want it to be a platform for anyone with a passion for music.’
