For most of my career in mortgage, the people we looked up to were usually incredible producers. They knew how to sell, build relationships, generate business and perform at a really high level.

But very few of us were actually taught how to lead people.

Those are different skills.

Leadership asks you to create clarity when people are uncertain, stay steady when things get hard, make decisions that aren't always popular, and help other people become more capable than they were before.

That's why watching Eric Bibel and Aileen Welty step further into leadership has been so inspiring to me.

VULNERABLE POST!

GET ON THE ROOF! 🏠

I was NERVOUS leading up to Realtor of the Future!

I had this vision of bringing together incredible people, providing REAL value, and creating an event that would make an impact.

But when you put yourself out there and try something you’ve never done before, those thoughts start creeping in.

What if nobody shows up? What if it doesn’t go as planned? What if I fail?

And man, this past week reminded me of something pretty special.

At NEO Home Loans, one of our core ethos is “Get on the Roof.”

The idea is simple. When you see a teammate who needs help, you don’t just cheer them on from the sidelines. You recognize the need, step up, and get on the roof WITH them!

And that’s exactly what happened for me.

Our PRESIDENT, my BOSS, and my COACH all traveled from out of state to support me and help make this event happen!

These guys have businesses to run, families, and a million other things competing for their time.

They didn’t HAVE to be there.

But they CHOSE to SHOW UP FOR ME!

And I can’t begin to tell you how much that meant.

They didn’t just talk about our ethos. They LIVED it!

And what an incredible event it turned out to be!

Over 60 Realtors and close to 100 people in the room!!

But when I look back, what stands out isn’t just the turnout. It’s the people who got on the roof WITH me and what this experience taught me about myself.

For a long time, I’ve allowed negative thoughts to creep in. Fear of failure, not being good enough, and questioning whether I’m capable of doing the things I feel called to do.

But this event reminded me of something.

I AM becoming someone different. I’m growing. I’m getting BETTER!

I’m proving to myself that I CAN do hard things!

I don’t have to listen to that voice telling me I’m not good enough. I don’t have to let fear make decisions for me.

The very things I’m afraid of doing are helping me become the person God has called me to be!

To everyone who traveled, spoke, sponsored, attended, or encouraged me, THANK YOU!

I’m incredibly grateful for the people God has placed in my life!

Some people have a way of making everyone around them better.

Gavin L. is one of those people. 💙

There’s a difference between being recognized for what you do and being seen for who you are.

This past weekend at our NEO Home Loans Summit, I experienced a little of both.

I was recognized for my creative contributions to our community. And while I’m incredibly grateful, what stayed with me wasn’t the recognition itself.

It was the reminder of what makes this community different.

Creativity has always been part of who I am. I love building things, challenging assumptions, and imagining what’s possible when we stop accepting the way things have always been done.

But my story is just one of hundreds at NEO.

We’re surrounded by people with extraordinary talents, different perspectives, and a shared belief that the mortgage industry can be something more than a transaction.

And maybe that’s where real change begins.
