POSTS STORIES REELS

I have had a rough time after baby #2. It caught me totally by surprise, even though 1 in 7 women experience some form of postpartum depression. But it wasn’t just depression, I started having intrusive thoughts and lots of anxiety as well as trouble sleeping. And because I’m very lucky to have an excellent paid parental leave and healthcare, I was able to get therapy and medicine to learn how to deal with my mood disorder and intrusive thoughts. And NPR let me make a life kit episode and comic about it, so here it is I am sharing it with you … also check out life kit for the audio version wherever you get your podcasts. I hope this helps other parents who might be struggling. And I hope people fight for better paid parental leave and mental health coverage. Thanks for reading! Lots of love to the mamas and papas out there xoxoxoxox by @neoncatdc

I illustrated a book! 📕 Party of One: Be Your Own Best Life Partner is now available for pre-order! 🪩 Written by the brilliant @damekeane, this book is here to help people bridge the gap between knowing it’s wonderful to be single to really feeling it. It’s full of stories, reporting, and researched tips to help anyone — regardless of relationship status — feel comfortable with their own company and build a meaningful life. It’s filled with my illustrations (they are funny! Moving! So pretty to look at!) We hope you enjoy it — Link in bio to pre-order! Thanks to the amazing team @chroniclebooks for believing in us! Book will drop October 8!!! Xoxox 😘 by @neoncatdc

Hi friends 👋 I’ve been working on illustrating a book my genius coworker and friend @damekeane is writing which is called HOW TO BE SINGLE and will be hitting the shelves Fall 2024!!!!!!!!!!!! (Thank you @chronicleprism books!) It’s based on our comic and her episode of Life Kit that aired a year ago with the same title. ❤️ The book is about the struggle to be accepted and to accept yourself as a single person in our modern marriage-happy society. And, ultimately how to be in a beautiful relationship with yourself!!! No matter whether you’re coupled or not, you will love reading this book. I’m loving making art for it and am already a better friend to my single ladies and guys in my life. Follow me on this journey and check back for updates over the next few months!!! by @neoncatdc

On stage change … nbd. by @neoncatdc

Back in July, I gave a talk @iconconference about the power and responsibility of image making in today’s crazy world. Now I have turned it into an essay on Substack for everyone to read and judge me. These thoughts are my own, not anyone else’s. Lmk what you think. 🤔 —> thelajohnson.substack.com by @neoncatdc

Every night at Jasper’s bedtime I sing a song I hastily made up called, “The Bear Song”. I was so tired I got the story wrong and had the bears exploring Goldilocks’ home (scarier?) I have sung it for four years now, every night I put him to bed, no matter what. It’s a terrible song and you will never hear it. Hopefully this illustrated version of the original story will suffice. by @neoncatdc

Hansel and Gretel. I reread the original and it is much more disturbing than I remembered. At least the ending is satisfying! Illustrated on watercolor paper with watercolors and ink. All human-made. Xoxo 😚 by @neoncatdc
