MEET YOUR ARTISTS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

NEORT++ shows work by Ryu Furusawa @ryufurusawa at MEET YOUR ARTISTS.

Based in Tokyo and Chiba, Furusawa generates an ambiguous state on the screen where the boundary between subjectivity and objectivity blurs, by manipulating the very conditions of the medium and the viewing environment. His recent practice combines video recording with digital coordinate transformations to rewrite the spatiotemporal structures inscribed within moving images.

Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica 2024. Recent exhibitions include mission ∞ infinity | space + quantum + art at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (2026), HOW Art Museum Shanghai (2025), and ICC Annual 2024 at NTT ICC.

An Exhibition of Auto-Destructive Art
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Artists:
0xDEAFBEEF @_deafbeef , 0xFFF, Zeroichi Arakawa @zeroichiarakawa , Jonah Brucker-Cohen @coinop29 , exonemo @exonemo, Akihiro Kubota @hemokosa , Toshi @toshiaki.takase

Creation is usually described as bringing forth the new. Destruction is cast as its opposite, a loss. Yet in living systems, breakdown is integral to how the whole functions, and in art it has dismantled old forms and opened the way to new ones. The two are not opposites but a single process unfolding through time.

Here destruction is equal to creation, not a negative ending. A work that collapses of its own accord is not a finished object but a site that holds time and change within it.

Its point of departure is Auto-Destructive Art, proposed by Gustav Metzger in 1959. Having fled Nazi persecution for Britain, Metzger faced the destructive forces of postwar society and conceived works that would disappear over time. Corrosion, disintegration and disappearance were built into the structure from the outset, and their unfolding was the work itself.

Seven artists carry that into decentralized computing environments, where a work runs as code and persists while changing state. An action once executed cannot always be reversed, and a program can hold the conditions for its own disappearance.

🗓️ Oct 2 to 18, 14:00 to 19:00|Closed Mon, Tue and holidays
📍 NEORT++, Tokyo

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The Last Acres of the Internet
@exonemo
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

H, T, T, P, colon, slash, slash, dub, dub, dub.

Exploring the Internet once began with typing an address and visiting a place built by someone you had never met. A URL marked where information lived, and told you someone was there.

This exhibition reconsiders that address as land left on the Internet. Unlike data, which can be copied without limit, the same domain name cannot be registered twice at once. A domain is one of the few forms of scarcity built into an Internet that assumes copying.

"Own the last land left on the Internet. Your real dream comes true here."

What is for sale are random strings of 63 characters, the maximum a domain name allows, followed by .land. They cannot be remembered, and they are hard to say out loud. Here they are treated as unclaimed land.

To buy land is to take on its future. The buyer is entrusted with renewing the domain and keeping the site online. If renewal stops, the address lapses and the path to the work is lost with it. Ownership holds only through continued care.

For one week, NEORT++ becomes a real estate agency handling land in an HTML wilderness that reaches to the horizon. Come and take a look around.

🗓️ Sept 20 to 26, 14:00 to 19:00
 Closed Sept 21 and 22
📍 NEORT++, Tokyo|Free admission

Opening reception Sept 20, 18:00 to 21:00

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Reality in Polyphony
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Excerpt from the statement:

"We might mistake this tranced moving for joy but there is no joy in it" - Margaret Atwood "The Circle Game" (1964)

Long ago, they say, four seasons cycled through this island, and people delighted in bathing in the summer sun. They could still let their thoughts wander, to lands not yet seen, to the stars beyond the sky.

The year 2026, the reference point of this exhibition, was the future once depicted a century ahead by Metropolis (1926), and the virtuality forty years after Habitat (1986), the PC game often called the world's first metaverse. Is this the future you dreamed of? Is this the virtual world we once dreamed?

—

NEW TRUTH exhibition at NEORT++ in Tokyo! 24 July — 2 August, 2026

A photograph has never been a record of the truth. It looks like the world without being it, and we mistake the resemblance for proof. NEW TRUTH starts in the gap that opens there, between the image and the real.

The works are stills pulled from synthetic video. The model that produced them was trained in part on the artists’ own photographs of Los Angeles and Berlin, so what it generates is hallucinated out of an archive that once recorded those two cities for real — hybrid places you seem to remember but cannot locate. Actual truths that never happened.

No single hand chose them. Abosch and Pleuger worked blind, each unable to see what the other was picking, and only the images they landed on independently — the ones they agreed on without ever discussing them — were kept. Nothing here was checked against the world. It was checked against another person. Truth by convergence rather than correspondence.

They carry the soft, low-resolution grain of Hi8, the format from the years when a camcorder first put the recording of “truth” into ordinary hands. High definition flatters everything now, and the most convincing images it produces are usually the most synthetic. This coarser surface does the opposite. It shows you it was made.

NEW TRUTH treats truth and value as things assigned to an image, not found in it. The artists assigned them once, by agreeing. Anyone standing in front of the work assigns them again. In a culture filling up with synthetic memory, what the show asks for is attention and a little slowness — enough to decide for yourself what you are prepared to believe. // @kevinabosch @rapleuger @neort_2 taken in Shibuya, Tokyo by @neort_2
