Nerd Swag Visuals | Detroit Police: Domestic Violence Unit (Major Crimes) and Faith & Blue Weekend (DPD Chaplain Corps)

Last weekend, Team Nerd Swag had the opportunity to capture the Detroit Metropolitan Police Department in the community.

💜 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS

Presented by DPD’s Domestic Violence Unit, this was more than an event. It was a space for education, empowerment, fellowship, and healing.

From the Domestic Violence Awareness Walk to vendors providing massage therapy, yoga, mental health services, and other resources, attendees experienced community support in action. DPD’s Sex Crimes Unit, Victim Assistance Program, Firearms Training Unit, and others were also present. And yes, there was food!

Special thanks to Detective Adams, one of the primary organizers, for the invitation.

💙 NATIONAL FAITH & BLUE WEEKEND

From the kickoff at DPD Headquarters to a community prayer walk with the Chaplain Corps, faith leaders, school staff, and children, we witnessed faith and community intersect.

Perhaps the most powerful moment was watching children approach afterward and personally ask for prayer.

That’s not just community engagement. That’s trust being built.

Special thanks to DC Starks, Chief Chaplain, Lieutenant D. Anderson, and NPO Franklin.

The Detroit Police Department is a law enforcement agency, but the badge represents more than the authority to enforce the law. It represents a responsibility to serve humanity.

It’s the detective who understands a survivor needs more than a police report.

It’s the chaplain who offers prayer when someone needs hope.

It’s the officer who takes time to listen.

It’s the child who begins to see an officer as someone they can approach and trust.

Sometimes, the most powerful thing an officer can do has nothing to do with making an arrest. Sometimes, it’s simply showing up, listening, and reminding someone they are not alone.

Because long after the events end, the impact of a meaningful connection can remain.

Harvest Fest 2026 — It’s a Wrap! 🍂🎃
Detroit Riverfront Conservancy x Nerd Swag Visuals

This weekend, I had the opportunity to team up with the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy to help tell the story of Harvest Fest 2026 through my lens. My official job was to be the “People Guy”… I kinda like that one (Thanks Mary 😊).

The food. The art. The smiles. The music. The love. The city was alive.

But what stood out to me most wasn’t just what was happening—it was who was there.

Families. Friends. Kids picking out pumpkins. People dancing like nobody was watching. Artists sharing their gifts. Couples creating memories. Strangers laughing together. People from different neighborhoods, backgrounds, and generations all sharing the same space.

That’s what the Riverfront is supposed to be.

As summer ends and fall officially begins, the temperature may get cooler. The stages may come down. The music may fade. The food trucks may pull away. But the mission of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy doesn’t change.

The goal is still to create a Riverfront that belongs to everybody.

And that’s why events like Harvest Fest matter. They’re bigger than a weekend event. They’re about creating spaces where Detroiters don’t just come to visit—they come to belong.

And now, you have an opportunity to help shape what comes next.

Visit detroitriverfront.org and be part of the planning and conversation about the future of YOUR RIVERFRONT.

Because the Riverfront isn’t just something to look at and no it’s not JUST the Number One Riverfront in America…..

It’s something to experience. Something to enjoy. Something to shape. Something that belongs to all of us.

Detroit Riverfront Conservancy — Bring Everybody. Because It’s FOR EVERYONE.

Out of almost 1k pics shot this weekend these were my top 99. Enjoy.

The sun is setting on an incredible Harvest Fest 2026, presented by the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy (@detroitriverfront ).

The sunset over the river is beautiful, the temperature is dropping, and that familiar chill coming off the Detroit River is starting to creep in.

But then the evening headliner for the Skyline Stage takes the mic…

And it’s only up from there.

My buddy Alise King had no idea I was one of the photographers/cinematographers on hand covering Harvest Fest. I’ve had the pleasure of shooting her performances a few times, so realizing I’d get to capture her again was definitely an added bonus.

She sees me and hits me with a quick, “Hey Tony!” 😂

Translation: I see you over there. Make sure you get my good shots.

No problem. 😂📸

Alise took the mic and did what she does best — she SANGGGGG, but more importantly, she brought people together.

Different ages. Different backgrounds. Different walks of life. All standing along Detroit’s riverfront enjoying the same music, the same energy, and the same moment.

And that couldn’t have been more perfectly aligned with the mission of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy: creating a riverfront that truly belongs to everyone.

As her set came to an end, Alise did what I’ve watched her do time and time again. She used her platform for more than entertainment. She encouraged people to believe in themselves, chase their dreams, live with purpose, and leave inspired.

The sun may have been setting on Harvest Fest…

But Alise King made sure the Skyline Stage went out shining.

Detroit Riverfront Conservancy — Bring Everybody. Because It’s FOR EVERYONE.

The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy is dedicated to more than simply bringing people to the riverfront. It’s about making sure people have their moment.

When I was given this assignment, the mandate was simple:

“No shot list. No direction. You’re our people guy, Tony. Just do what you do.”

So… I did.

Here is just a small sample of what that looked like.

Whether you were a dance group performing “Thriller,” a dad sharing a moment of laughter with his daughter, a Detroit Fire lieutenant and a member of the Conservancy team sharing a moment, a proud mom, a Latin dance troupe, a little girl spreading her butterfly wings, an astronaut, Princess Michael Jackson, a little girl picking out her very first pumpkin, friends enjoying a girls’ night out, or a couple taking their first romantic photo together…

We had it covered.

Because those are the moments that make the riverfront what it is.

Different people.
Different stories.
Different experiences.
One riverfront.

And this was only Day One.
We have one more day left.

While you’re there, be sure to stop by the Eastern Riverfront Community Hub and share your thoughts about what you believe the future of YOUR riverfront should look like.

Because the riverfront doesn’t belong to just some of us.

Bring everybody — because it’s FOR EVERYONE. The Number One Riverfront in America as rated by USA Today.

SEPTEMBER 2026
Through the Eyes of Nerd Swag Visuals

The end of summer. The beginning of fall. And a whole lot of Detroit in between.

From random moments along America’s Number One Riverwalk, to Yin Nights in Hart Plaza with @jamelrandall . From New Era Detroit standing on—and handling—neighborhood business, to Soirée on the Greenway, the annual fundraiser supporting the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy and Joe Louis Greenway Partnership.

From the kickoff of the NFL season—with moments captured during Weeks 1 and 3—to Eastern Market After Dark, neighborhood events, community gatherings, concerts, candid moments, and everything in between.

This was September.

And this is how we saw it.

At Nerd Swag Visuals, our job isn’t simply to take pictures.

It’s to tell a story.

To capture the energy you could feel but couldn’t necessarily explain. To preserve the expressions, the people, the movement, the culture, and those little moments happening in between the moments everyone else was watching.

We don’t just want to show you what happened.

We want you to experience it.

Simply put:

The Moment. Curated.

If you see yourself—or somebody you know—TAG THEM!

And as always, if you see yourself in one of my photos and want a copy, screenshot it and DM me. I’ll send it to you for FREE.

No watermark. No charge.

Just your moment.

Team Nerd Swag x New Era Detroit
Neighborhood Mobile Resource Fair
Saturday, September 26, 2026 | 1137 Hours
📍 Mack & Bewick | East Detroit

For years, I was told that under NO circumstances should I ever be on Mack & Bewick. 😂

One person even joked that it could be sunny throughout the entire city of Detroit and somehow there would still be a cloud hanging over Mack & Bewick.

Those are probably some of the same people who said New Era Detroit is never on the Eastside.

Well… contrary to popular belief, the sun was shining bright, the people showed up, the vendors came out, and New Era Detroit did what they do best:

Not just standing on business — but HANDLING neighborhood business.

Free haircuts. Free food. Eviction resources. Home care. Shelter assistance. Daycare resources. And much more — all brought directly into the neighborhood for the people who needed it.

And then came the raffles.

Four people walked away with $50 gift cards. One person’s utilities were paid. One person’s rent was paid — although it took a few drawings because folks kept leaving before their names were called. 🤦🏾‍♂️😂

And New Era Detroit closed it out by giving away a $500 cash prize.

But beyond the giveaways, what matters most is the work.

A lot of people talk about what they do for the community.

New Era Detroit DOES it.

No speeches required. No waiting for people to come to them. They pull up, bring the resources directly into the neighborhood, and get to work.

I’m proud to be behind the scenes — and behind the lens — as they continue doing exactly that.
