The newest generation of Softails is here! As the Lead Softail Engine Calibration and Emissions Engineer, this project has consumed a lot of my time the last few years. Working under high confidentiality is a normal part of my job, so when our products make it to market and I see them on dealership floors for the first time, it’s a really exciting feeling.

The 2025 Softail lineup features 6 different models with 3 unique Milwaukee-Eight engine configurations. For the first time ever, all Softails come from the factory with a 117ci center cooled engine (that’s approximately 1917cc’s). New exhaust and intake designs and carefully designed power/torque curves were implemented to differentiate the 6 models into 3 character categories: Classic, Custom, and High Output (H.O.)

Also, for the first time ever, features such as ride modes, straight line and cornering ABS, and straight line and cornering traction control come standard on every Softail from the factory. I was really excited to lead the work on the ride modes for this project because that’s a unique feature that really exemplifies the ‘feel’ or the character of these bikes. To the everyday person, ride modes may not seem like a huge deal, but I personally think they are very impactful to the rider, and they are a ton of work for us engineers!

I also led my team to successfully create world-wide emissions and noise compliant calibrations that helped deliver the most horsepower from the factory in Big Twin Cruiser history… and that’s just me bragging about the powertrain! These new Softails have a ton of other exciting updates from electrical and rider controls, to styling and graphics. I can’t speak highly enough about all my friends and colleagues; the other engineers/mechanics/technicians who brought these bikes to life.

I really enjoyed the team of powertrain engineers that I got to work so closely with throughout this project, and I’m so thankful for their shared dedication and leadership. I think we really kicked ass on this one!

Sappy post incoming ⚠️
Last night we wrapped up the 2022 @buildmoto competition season and I’m feeling incredibly proud of my team @theironangels. Our 6 high school ladies grew so much technically and personally over the last 6 months of this build, it’s been my honor to help facilitate that progression. Reminiscing to our first meeting in January, each one of them has grown so much. I always get a little emotional when our season comes to a close because for the last 6 months we saw each other every week. We overcame technical challenges, we worked through personal challenges, we dove into all types of emotions, we talked about so much more than just motorcycles, but our build was the catalyst. I’ll miss these ladies, but I’m excited to see where they go from here. I’m consistently impressed by our students. Plus, their passion for motorcycles has officially been stoked!
And to my fellow mentors, you deserve a whole separate post. I couldn’t have done this without a small team of strong women by my side.

Portland, Maine 🦞
We had this trip on the books for awhile because our beautiful friends @zandystov & @jared.on.keys were tying the knot on one of Portland’s islands. But, as most of you know, I had an unexpected back surgery just a few weeks prior.

My healing has been going well, and my surgeon said I should be fine for the trip. So, with my back brace packed, we decided to go.

The plane rides were tough, and the trip overall was way more lowkey than our normal trips… lots of lying down throughout the day and more uber rides than walking… but we made the most of it and still had SO much fun.

Escaping the AZ heat for a few days, smelling the salty air, exploring a new city together, and moving around more than I have in the last few weeks all felt great. We pretty much ate, drank, and sailed our way through Portland.

I’m grateful to our newlywed friends for sharing a piece of their east coast hearts with us. Even though we only saw a tiny bit, I can tell that Maine is a special place. taken in Portland, Maine by @nerissa_nonstop
