While shopping at Green Hills Mall, I had the unexpected pleasure of meeting one of my favorite comedians, Rene Vaca. It was a fantastic surprise to not only meet him but also have the chance to chat with him for a few minutes. He's genuinely a cool, down-to-earth guy.

I learned he was performing at Zanies all weekend, but unfortunately I'll have to miss his show because of my work schedule. That's the sort of cruel joke adulthood likes to tell. Hopefully our paths will cross again, and next time I'll get the chance to catch one of his live stand-up performances.

As I strolled along the bank, a curious little amphibian popped its head above the water. I saw the frog, and the frog saw me. We stared at each other for a while, each wondering what the other was doing there, neither of us moving. Eventually, I continued my stroll, and the frog slipped back into its watery world. Moments like that remind me how amazing nature can be, as even the briefest encounter can create a sense of connection with the world around us. #Nature by @nero_sicario

I am heading home a little later than usual this evening after spending several hours with Kid Rock, better known as Robert “Bobby” Ritchie. One thing became apparent almost immediately: Bobby possesses an inexhaustible supply of jokes. I am fairly certain he could entertain an entire stadium armed with nothing more than a folding chair and a microphone.

We spent the evening in conversation and laughter, enjoying one another’s company. Somewhere along the way, however, Bobby became convinced that I was Ice-T. Despite being properly introduced and hearing my actual name more than once, he continued to prefer that name. At a certain point, I stopped trying to solve the mystery and simply accepted that, for one evening, I had apparently been reassigned a new identity.

My working theory is that Bobby may have enjoyed a few more drinks than he originally planned. Either that, or he knows something about me that I do not. In any case, he remained fully committed to the Ice-T theory for the duration of the evening.

Before we parted ways, we exchanged contact information. Bobby laughed and warned me that he is not exactly famous for answering his phone. I told him not to worry, as I am not much of a texter myself. We may have created the world’s most low-maintenance friendship: two people exchanging contact information while simultaneously admitting that neither of us has any intention of using it.

Despite that, I appreciated the gesture. It is not every day one spends an evening laughing with Kid Rock, gets mistaken for Ice-T, and walks away with a new contact in one’s phone. Whether either of us ever reaches out remains to be seen, but the memory alone was worth the price of admission.

Setting the humor aside for a moment, meeting Bobby was a genuine pleasure. The conversation was relaxed, the laughter nonstop, and the company excellent. It was one of those rare evenings that leaves you with a smile on the drive home. The only lingering question is whether Bobby remembers meeting Clarence—or whether, in his mind, he will always remember spending the evening with Ice-T.

Peter Boghossian’s work has played a meaningful role in shaping how I think, question, and engage with the world. Although I have never studied with him directly, I consider him a mentor-at-a-distance—someone whose approach to dialogue and inquiry has influenced my own intellectual development. His emphasis on Socratic questioning has encouraged me to slow down, examine my assumptions, and approach disagreements with curiosity rather than defensiveness.

What stands out to me is his commitment to creating open spaces for honest conversation. Through his public dialogues and demonstrations of Street Epistemology, he models how to explore beliefs without hostility, pressure, or pretense. This method has helped me reflect more deeply on my own reasoning and has strengthened my ability to engage others respectfully and thoughtfully.

Across his work, Boghossian remains grounded in applied epistemology—taking philosophical tools and making them usable in everyday life. That consistency is part of what makes his influence so valuable to me. His ideas have not only informed my thinking but have also shaped how I approach learning, communication, and personal growth. In many ways, his work has helped me become a more deliberate, reflective, and intellectually honest person.

I wish to express my gratitude to @peter.boghossian for his leadership in promoting critical thinking and fostering honest, open discussions.

What Does Dogma Mean?

The term dogma originates from Latin, where it refers to "philosophical tenet," and from Greek, where it means "opinion" or "tenet." Dogma is defined as a principle or set of principles laid down by an authority as incontrovertibly true.

_____

What Is Dogma?

Dogma is often discussed in the context of religious dogma, where beliefs and doctrines are accepted without questioning or verifying them. However, it also extends to ideological, political, or philosophical principles.

In certain instances, dogma may lead to blind trust, where individuals accept claims or intentions without scrutiny. This phenomenon can connect to dogmatism, which refers to a rigid and inflexible adherence to beliefs, expecting others to accept them unquestioningly.

_____

Dogmatism

Dogmatism involves the unwavering commitment to a specific set of beliefs or principles, rejecting alternative perspectives or evidence. Dogmatic individuals often present their views as unquestionably true, stifling open dialogue and critical thinking. This mindset leaves little room for nuance or opposing viewpoints and is frequently associated with:

• Philosophy: Exploring rigid ideologies or reasoning.

• Religion: Advocating strict adherence to spiritual doctrines.

• Politics: Shaping actions based on unyielding ideological stances.

_____

Dogmatism on Social Media

In the digital age, social media amplifies dogmatism in unique ways:

1. Manifestation:

• People assert beliefs or opinions rigidly, often dismissing dissent.

• This behavior leads to polarized debates, echo chambers, and aggressive online interactions.

2. Role of Algorithms:

• Platforms prioritize content that aligns with users' preferences, reinforcing pre-existing beliefs.

• This creates bubbles that magnify dogmatism and reduce exposure to diverse perspectives.

3. Consequences:

• Constructive dialogue and critical thinking are often overshadowed by emotional reactions and entrenched biases.

• The divisive environment makes it harder to achieve understanding or common ground.
