This year at Rhinebeck, I made the crazy decision to get an e-spinner since I’ve been wanting to learn how to spin yarn forever and I haven’t taken to the drop spindle. After a few rocky attempts (see last two pics), I feel like I’m finally in a place where I like what I’m making. I don’t have a plan for using any of it yet, right now I’m just enjoying the process. by @nervousknits

Finally returning to my knitting Instagram after a long hiatus. I am excited to announce that I will be starting my PhD in clinical psychology at City College in the fall! This is something I have been working towards for a long time and the application and interview process has taken all of my energy these past few months. I haven’t been posting, but I have been doing plenty of knitting. I’ll try to catch up by posting all the things I’ve been working on! Earlier this year, I finished this blanket with my advent from @playfuldayyarns. One of the dogs immediately peed on it while it was blocking, but fortunately it didn’t stain 🙄 I’m optimistically claiming this as a people blanket and not a dog blanket, but it’s really just a matter of time until they decide it’s theirs. What’s everyone working on? Normally this time of year my interest in knitting ebbs, but this year I’m still in knitting mode.

Hope everyone had a restful Thanksgiving weekend. I finally got to taking pictures of one of my favorite FO’s yet! Although my initial idea in buying these skeins was for a linen stitch scarf, I quickly realized that I wanted something that would use up more yardage since I really loved these colors from @feederbrookfarm. I made a shift cowl awhile back and decided this yarn would be perfect for a nightshift shawl. A couple of mods- the original nightshift is knit using worsted weight yarn, but feederbrook is DK. I went down a needle size to get a tighter knit that was more suitable for a slightly lighter yarn. Since my gauge was smaller, I went by the finished measurements for the shawl rather than the number of rows listed in the pattern. I used 5 colors instead of 6 and I used up almost all my yardage. It knit up super quickly because I was excited to see how the colors interacted with each other as they changed.

yarn: feederbrook farms entropy DK. Not 100% sure but I believe the colors I used are 4, free fall, centripetal force, chaos theory, and quartile. Need to check if I kept the labels 😬

Finally got around to taking some pictures of my Rhinebeck treasures! I went to Cakepalooza, A Woolen Affair and of course NYSW. I’m really excited about everything and most of it has a plan. I would have to write a novella to describe everything in the first slide, but almost everyone is tagged so check them out! The one thing from the first picture that I couldn’t tag was the amazing basket. Every year I make a beeline to Kristine in Barn A and get a different shape. They’re so beautiful and functional, always one of my favorite purchases!

Slide 2: I picked up these skeins of @feederbrookfarm after being inspired by @hkot’s linen stitch scarf. I think these are going to look amazing together!

Slide 3: @foreveryarn_doylestown helped me pick out a sweater quantity of @labienaimee consisting of their confetti base and little kumo base. I’m excited to do a swatch and see how they look held together.

Slide 4: Close up of the notions pouch I got from @birdieparkerdesigns that I am excited to start using! Plus my beautiful single buttons @lisapetersart. I think these could be used for a shrug or a shawl, but if anyone has ideas for projects with a solo button let me know.

Ready for my first @westknits MAL! Saw this kit from @qingfibre and couldn’t resist. Anyone else participating? I need an accountability buddy! Finishing my Framed for Rhinebeck is still my priority but this will be a close second.

Finally got around to taking pics of some FO’s today! In addition to working on my Framed sweater, I’ve also been trying to finish some WIPs or kits that have been languishing in my yarn cabinet. This is the blink tank by @lauranelkin. I swapped out the merino yarn that came with a kit in favor of cotton from @cleosyarnshop because I like cotton better for the summer. Other than that, I followed the pattern exactly and used the instructions for the thicker straps. Overall I am happy with it, I think it would probably be a little more flattering if the straps were just a tiny bit longer but I feel like sometimes cotton can feel the effects of gravity a bit more acutely than wool, plus the added weight of the beads. If over time it doesn’t seem to be stretching at all, maybe I’ll go back and add length since I have plenty of yarn left.

Although it was close, a lot of you voted for option 2 when I posted to my story about which spincycle color to use as the CC for my framed sweater. Rusted rainbow was a little out of my comfort zone compared to shades of earth, which is very much up my alley. I loved rusted rainbow in my swatch, but combined with the white I think it was a little too Christmas-y. I am definitely motivated to use it for a different sweater with a different background color, maybe more of a taupe. Anyways, I’ve been chugging away on my framed sweater with shades of earth and I’m very pleased with how it’s turning out. Fingers crossed it fits because swatching for colorwork in the round is so tricky and I hate it. I swatched with a 7 but ended up going down to a 6 because my swatch was a little big after blocking. I forgot to measure it before blocking so I’m not sure how much it grew, therefore it’s hard to know if I’m on track now. Pray for me because it would not be the first time I knit almost an entire colorwork sweater for the gauge to be massively wrong, although I would like to think I learned from my mistakes (hence torturous colorwork in the round swatch).

MC: From my stash, white Shepherd’s Wool I got ages ago from @the_endless_skein
CC1: @spincycle_yarns Dream State in shades of earth
CC2 (hem): @breadandbutteryarn worsted in shadows from @brooklyngeneralstore which, by the way, I really like and want to knit a whole sweater out of.

Swipe to see the needlepoint gifts I made for the bridal party for my wedding! For the ladies, I made jewelry boxes from @rachelbarridesigns, ordered through @wvknitandneedle, who also helped me with finishing. For the guys, I made luggage tags using canvases and leather tags from @hedgehog_needlepoint and @wvknitandneedle was nice enough to help me finish these as well!
