The rupee is having a rough year... and so is your wallet.

5.4% of its value lost. Translation? More rupees to buy the same dollar.

But while economists debate exchange rates and reserves, most people experience it much more simply:
The same salary.
The same shopping list.
A much more painful checkout bill.

Doctors have prescribed DRAMA!

Dose 1: The Sri Lanka Medical Council issued a major warning: Doctors must stop the mystery handwriting! Illegible prescriptions are a serious patient safety risk, and messy prescriptions will now face disciplinary action.

Dose 2: Starting Monday (Nov 17th), the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) is launching trade union action to protest unanswered demands (mainly on the 2026 Budget). Their actions? They will limit services, which specifically includes prescribing medicines for external purchase and recommending external lab tests.

The connection? Doctors are being told to write quality prescriptions at the exact moment they are deciding to write fewer prescriptions, maybe as a form of protest.

This is a serious situation. Not only is the threat of unreadable prescriptions real, but now obtaining external prescriptions/tests will be limited.

All in all: You can’t complain about illegible prescriptions if there are no external prescriptions to read!

The 2024 General Election marks a pivotal moment in Sri Lanka’s political history. With a record-breaking voter turnout and a shift in political power, the country stands at a crossroads.

The National People’s Power (NPP) secured a historic win, but with it comes the responsibility to fulfill the promises made to the people.

As Sri Lanka prepares for a new government, this election sets the stage for potential reforms, challenges, and the pursuit of progress. The road ahead will determine if this transformative shift will meet the nation’s expectations.

The NPP has reshaped Sri Lanka’s political landscape with a sweeping victory, securing 159 seats—141 through elections and 18 via the National List—granting them a two-thirds majority in Parliament.

The SJB trailed significantly with 40 seats, while ITAK secured 8, and smaller parties like the SLPP and SLMC managed just 3 seats each. This election not only shifts the balance of power but also marks the departure of many long-standing political figures, making way for new faces and perspectives.

As Sri Lanka embarks on this chapter, questions about the nation’s direction loom large. 🗳️
