My babe, my always and forever best friend. Happy 50th Birthday, Mom.

Those who know me know I am the biggest mama’s girl. I love this woman so much that I can’t hold a single conversation without her name finding its way in. She is my mirror, my compass, my safe place, and the reason I stand the way I stand.

I would tell anyone who listens that I work as hard as I do because no one is coming to save me. But the truth? My mom has always been coming. Every single time. Before I even have the words to ask, she is already there. Without hesitation, without condition. She has seen every version of me and has never once judged me. Not once. She just loved me harder.

When I was younger, she asked me a question I will carry for the rest of my life: “Who are you as a person, without a man, without anyone?” That question planted something in me that nothing and no one has been able to uproot. It changed the entire trajectory of my life. It made me build myself from the inside out. Everything I am, my ambition, my independence, my faith, my fire, started with her.

At 50, my mom is living proof that grace and strength are not opposites. She prayed when things fell apart and still got up and made a way. She poured into everyone around her and somehow never ran dry. She taught me that softness is not weakness and that a woman who knows who she is will never be lost.

Mom, every dream I chase, every risk I take, every room I walk into with my head held high, that is your doing. You didn’t just raise me. You gave me permission to become.

Happy 50th birthday to the woman who made me before the world ever got the chance to. I love you beyond words, beyond everything.

2025 Wrapped 🤍:
Ups. Downs. Growth. Soft wins.

This is one year I won’t forget anytime soon, in no particular order;

My forever babe came to see me, and it genuinely made me so happy.
We laughed a lot 🤍 @helenn.og

Then my best girl, the VA to my Nessa, came too. @obehi_io
We travelled to Montréal, had so much fun, and made memories
(first of many 💃🏽).

My career progressed in ways I once only prayed for, including contributing to the continuous success of the Voices Unheard Survey, Canada’s first survey on Black women’s health.

I may not post regularly, but behind the scenes…
I’m quietly living a life I used to dream about 🫶🏽

My weight fluctuated (second puberty had me in a chokehold but honestly… I love her 😌).

Oh! I cut my hair. Still a cutie, don’t worry 😉

Deeply grateful for my family for keeping me rooted,
my friends for making life sweet.

Honourable Mention: My sweet Father, God, You led me, held my hand, and said “I’ll guide you.”
I’m forever in awe of you and your love 🤍✨

Turning a year old made me feel like I had to be more serious about life. But I’ve realized those thoughts were just unnecessary pressures I put on myself.

I’m exactly where I need to be. It gets overwhelming at times, but I’m genuinely happy and blessed. I have God who has always held my hand, and the most amazing family and friends who shower me with pure love ❤️

So today, I’m embracing this new beginning as a clean slate, and I’m going to bask in every moment of this era. With that said, I’ll say this to myself: “Happy Birthday, Vanessa. You’re the sweetest girl ever, and I love you so much. Keep moving forward.”🥳🎉 by @nessagold_
